Yet another noob in need of help

Ok, I'm pretty new. Friend got me into this and I bought a cheap marker just to play, but now I'm getting into it and want to keep up. Like many, I dont have a lot to spend, or atleast not all at once. Little here, little there. I need some suggestions. I have a spyder xtra. Started with it and have loved it for awhile, extremly reliable, broke mayb 3 balls out of 5 cases. Then someone sold me a cheap etrigger for like $50. Same day I bought a Java HP bottle. So a slapped the two on to try it out and I'm chopping mad balls and the thing is acting up. By this I mean that it acting as though the bolt is not catching on the release and it double/triple firing sometimes, and this almost always causes a chop or two. I'm thinking it is because of the cheap trigger, but I dont have a regulator on the marker yet (its ordered). I'm to the point not I just want to throw the thing down and buy a new marker. I'm here looking for advice from the season pros. As with any hobby, your bound to make stupid mistakes when your noob, so Im wanting to avoid this. Should I start from scratch and buy a new marker, or buy some parts for the xtra. I'm looking at spending about $100 immediatly and more down the road.

what's probably happening, if you dont thing the bolt is catching on the way back, is either the sear is probably getting worn, and it's taking a bit to grab, or or your trigger frame may not be tightened enough. spyder e-trigger frames have a tendency to loosen themselves with a little bit of play, so check that first of all.

if you do decide to go the new marker route, and still want a spyder, dont go with anything flashy or special... you'll see it reccommended a lot here for beginners, but the imagine is a great marker for under 100$, and is pretty much exactly the same internally as every other spyder on the market... it just doesnt have all the fancy things.

I wish I could save, but I need a functioning marker. What are Ions going for, used preferably? It doesnt seem to be the need for tightening, thats the first thing I checked, and it was a little loose. THe skip shooting did reduce alot, but still does it. Its some what spuratic now, it'll work fine for a hopper or so, then starts acting up. I'm thinking about replacing the bolt for a ACS and replacing that lower bolt piece (not sure the name).

The lower bolt piece is the striker or hammer.

Good idea on tearing it down.

The hammer and the sear are some kind of steel and it pretty tough. I tried to drill one once and, although it worked, I dulled a few bits. They were carbides too.

I wouldn't expect them to have worn out that much. But anythings possible.

Have a look and see that the spring underneith the sear is holding it up high enough to grab the hammer also.

Also chech or replace the o-ring on the hammer. If it isn't sealing well it might cause it to bounce like that.

Put the penny where? Well i was looking around for a new marker, and I hope I didnt screwup. I saw a refurb autococker trilogy for $85. I know a decent bit about low end markers (work at a field, and always repairing the rentals), but do not have any experience with higher end markers. Someone please tell me I did ok, and maybe a little info on this thing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Also upgrades?

you put the penny behind the solenoid, tun it on(no air) and fire it when the noid moves place a penny into noid behind it so that it hold it forward a lil bit. my cousin did that and his worked

Well Im not looking for the greatest thing out there, I just need a marker that'll keep up with me and I wont out grow anytime soon like I did my xtra. I was a little worried about getting a cocker because everytime I go to my local pain shop they always have a cocker or two on the repair bench. Ohwell, I guess time will tell.

most likely its the trigger frame. if it gets too loose it won't shoot at all.

i have to tighten mine 1-3 times in a 3 hour time period.

it's really annoying. make sure you have an alen rench

for 75 you did okay with that trilogy... Be careful though, there are plenty of dumb things you can do to mess up a cocker's timing. Cockers, and trilogies especially, are not to be messed with. Watch some tutorials, stuff like that, BEFORE you attempt to time it or do anything like that. once you know what you're doing, then go ahead, mess around. I wouldve saved a bit more and for about 200 gotten a used e1 cocker... much better value IMHO.

Well if i screwed up with this cocker then it serves me right for not doin my homework. Seems like everytime i hesitate and do some research on something, when i come back its gone. I've heard cockers to be good guns so i went with it. Whats this with the timing? I hate to be stupid, but i've never used one. Im guessing they function differently due to the three airlines coming out of the front. Not sure what these do, but i'm sure i'll figure it out. The guy that ownes the local paint shop uses my fields on weekends so maybe i can bargain a quick lesson for some free range time, we'll have to see. Hell if nothing else then this will prove to be a good learning lesson, but I have faith that i'll learn to like this cocker. I just have to learn the ins and outs of it like i did my spyder. Something tells me the cockers dont share the extreme simplicity of the spyders. What are the pros of cockers? Again hate to sound so noob but I gotta learn somewhere.

one good thing about a trilogy....keep your eyes peeled for a used e-blade or worr frame(the stock version of said e-blade). They will work. with an adapter, on trilogies.
