Gear

So I have this question, masks. Somewhere on the forum I read as a beginner, get a really good mask. Nothing too expensive but one that will ensure you will be safe. Any suggestions on a mask?

Second is what kind of clothing do you usually wear? If I get into woodsball I was thinking I'd just go to an army surplus store or somewhere online and find some woodland BDU pants, a woodland jacket, and some sturdy boots. I heard it's good to have shoes that go above your ankles for support if you're doing wooodsball.

Now for speedball I was thinking the kind of clothes the pros wear but I don't want anything to expensive. Something cheap but will work well, giving me room to move and not feel like I'm in spandex. I'd describe better but I can barely keep my eyes open right now. Maybe tomorrow. Advice please. Thanks.

Profilers, flex 8, profelx. Some good masks at your price range.

Speedball jersies and pants will probolly be over your limit, its all prety expensive, and you don't want low quality crap thats just gonna break on you.

In my opinion, profilers are the best goggles, however, Flexs, Invisions, and Vents are all really nice. They never fog up and have great vidion.

It deosnt really matter what you wear for woodsball, but sturdy clothes are best. It sounds like you already have some good clothes picked out.

For speedball, you can grab some older clothes (jerseys that are previous years models) and they should go for around $30 if they are like 04s or 05s and for pants, just get teh cheapest you can find, same with the jersey. The really nice jerseys are not that much better, they might have more padding and a "cooler" style but you dont need them right now until you get more serious.

These guys have it right on the money. Their recommendations for masks are pretty accurate.

As for clothing, the answer is simple. Wear whatever you’re comfortable in, for hours at a time, and that allows you to move to the maximum amount of your ability. There’s no need to look flashy or on the other spectrum, predator like. You want to be able to move with ease, and speed.

Welcome to the sport & PBF

Thanks for the advice, and the welcome.

You guys have been a great help. Hopefully after the first sometime I'm going to a field with my friend (he's borrowing his uncles marker) and rent some gear for the day. We've recently had two blizzards so I guess the outdoor fields would be closed so we probably find an indoor place.

As for jerseys and older models, is padding necessary. What I'm thinking probably wont work since the jersey will be trashed but my brother and his friends dirtbike so I was thinking if I can find an old one they don't use anymore that might work. Once again, thanks for the advice. Everyone around here has been great in helping me get started.

i wear a Invision I3 or whatever its called. ya spend some money on a mask, it'll be worth it...i remember using the piece of junk kingman gave me used to pinch my nose and get me killed on my local field all the time!

i actually just bought my uniform. i'd get pants that are open ankles ( like not dirtbike pants that go under your boot but gives your ankle some breathing space ) with some form of knee protection and fits. jersey needs to just be comfortable and whether you want it spandex style or loose depends on your preferences.

i have a padding vest and some padded pants. i hardly use them unless i know im gonna go crazy and get wasted. but i play mid mostly so i don't need em...they don't always stop the pain but after the first two shots you don't even feel them anymore, the adrenaline kicks in.

hope im not to late =S

Yeah, a good mask is worth it. You cant really appreciate it though untill youve worn really crappy ones. Ive worn brass eagles and old zleaders and then i got my morphs and they were great. Then i got some profilers and it blew me away. Otherwise Morph vforce goggles are great budget goggles that never fog up.

I havnt looked at jersey and pant prices for awhile because i have a C6 jersey that i got for christmas 2 years ago, and i bought old Dye Hybrids when they were a year old. Got them for $80 and 3 years later i can still where them.

Padding is not that neccesary. If you do a ton of sliding on bad terrain you might wanna get some but i never really needed the them. The cheapest stuff ive seen are pants for around $60 and a Empire jersey for around $30 so thats your price range that your looking at.

For the woods, avoid the boots, if you have to squat at all your feet will fall asleep, ive used many different types of shoes, and for me old football cleats work best, and you dont need a second pair of shoes to speedball in

If you buy boots, get a nice pair of proper combat(preferably jump style) combat boots, not work boots. Work boots will most definetly cause the above mentioned issue. CB's are designed not to.

I always wear soccer cleats when playing speedball but i wear regular Tennis shoes when im in the woods. Sometime though i accidently forget to change shoes and leave my vans on. One time i was runnin to a 40 bunker, my shoe slipped off and i did a face plant: pushing off my goggles and glasses and since we were placing with newbs i was using a PGP so spray and pray was not an option. I quickly grabbed my goggles but i didnt have time to grab my glasses because i didnt want to get hit in teh eye. My sock was getting really dirty from running on it, and i bet i was pretty comical. In the end i shot a guy running to the 50 (1 balled him) because he was so close (im near sighted). Yeah, i changed shoes right after that.

I did that one other time but instead i head butted a bunker at teh 50 and knocked it over. It was 6 on 6 on a 3 man feild so there were plenty of guns to light me up.

yeah, i was talking about hunting boots, whatever you wear in the woods make sure and waterproof them, never good to have soggy socks while your being shot at.

Speaking of soggy socks, there was this one guy playing a scenerio at our feild. He just got shot and was walking back through our river bank, which was farely dry. It didnt look very deep were there was water (this is part of the willow river in WI) and he was walking back to his reinsertion point and all of a sudden he fell into this puddle and it went up to his chest and he could barely get out. As a ref i went to help him but he was already out and when he was gone i started laughing my ass off. A little bit more than wet socks.

I guess you're supposed to laugh at that stuff. Did he seem angry at all?

Thanks for the advice.
Yeah; I was considering combat boots. Pretty much getting everything I need for woodsball at a local army surplus store and then shopping online for speedball gear.
