Tippmann A5 not working correctly
Hey guys,
I recently picked up a used A5 from a friend. He had only used it a couple times. The last time he played he left the C02 canister on b/c he was going to play again the next day, ended up getting in a wreck and forgot about it. He never used it again for about 2 years, the canister was on the entire time.
I ended up buying it from him. Well, I went to mess with it today...
I found the manual online and saw that I can just unscrew the canister. (Please correct me if I'm wrong) There was no C02 left. He doesnt remember if he had run out and never took off the canister or not. Anyway, he had another 20oz canister that was still full. I put the safety on, cocked it, then got distracted (I was at work), came back and tried to put the canister on but it was just spewing out air. Well, my co-worker had saw it and shot it once. Anyway, I cocked it again and put the canister on, but itll only shoot every few seconds. I can cock it and itll shoot every time, but other than that, I have to wait.
Did I mess it up by trying to put the canister on while. Right now, I honestly cant remember if i was able to put it on and tried to shoot or if i just tried to put it on. Or could it have been messed up by leaving the canister on it for 2 years? Or did I do something wrong when I tried to take the canister off or when i put it on the second time after cocking it?
thanks
-Cody

you didn't do anything wrong by putting co2 on it. sounds like you have a bad o-ring on your co2 tank. replace it with a oring that you can buy at most sporting good stores.
you should take it apart and lube everything up and check for damaged o-rings on the inside before you panick more

most likely one of the o-rings is swollen or ruined, especially after that amount of time
also i would check anywhere a hose connects for leaks, and maybe get an A-5 parts kit, replace some o-rings, re-loctite all the fittings that need it and relube the gun
you cant kill a tippmann, it isnt possible

I'd say the o-rings on the tank and in the gun are worn out. Expecially if it was gased up for 2 years. It'll be a super cheap fix. Maybe $5 at most. Just go to your local shop and buy an A5 o-ring kit and then you can replace them. Also buy some gun lube from the shop. that'll help a lot to.

I dont think we have a shop around here. The only place I know of that sales paintball and accessories is Wal-Mart(God forbid) and Academy. Will they have o-rings and a generic marker cleaner kit? If not, where can I go online?
The gun is in excellent condition, its not dirty at all but I know over time oil and stuff will dissipate so I wont shoot it again until I get everything lubed up and new o-rings put in.

Walmart should have orings for the tank, and you'll have o check the tippman stickies on the nation to see if they have o-ring sizes that you can buy at most any hardware store.

Yea, or you can order the kit from actionvillage.com also. Go to there gun parts section and look for it. That way you know the o-rings are ment for the A5. Also you could go to the tippmann website and contact them. They have great customer service and i'm sure they will help you.
Wal-Mart isn't going to be able to help you much, the guy behind the counter might not know a thing about paintball so your out of luck there.

I got a tippmann a5 kit on ebay and replaced all the o-rings on it. Replaced the o-ring on the tank, put some oil on the tank adapter, loaded the gun and it still does the same thing. It wont fire unless its cocked. Anyone have any other ideas. Very well could be that i put it back together off, but its doing the same thing it did before...
Also, when I stripped it, after i pulled the plug on the back, i had to stick something down the barrel to get the plastic pieces on the end to come out and it says in the manual it should slide out.
Would it have something to do with the velocity setting possibly?

I got my other tank filled today and it still does the same thing. I replaced all the o-rings, maybe one isnt fitting right or something. I'm going to take it apart again and see if I can find something, otherwise, I'm just going to take it to the local paintball field as they work on em.

I'm still pretty sure it's an o-ring problem, or a problem with putting it together right. You might be better off letting the feild work on it. A good idea would be to ask if they could expalin to you what was wrong when they figure it out. That way you'll be able to fix it if it happens again.

Yea, I was planning on asking if I could watch and ask see what exactly they do. They rent out A-5's so Im sure they have tons of experience with them. I'm still praying that its something simple. Tonite I'll take it apart again but I was extremely meticulous the first time so I doubt its something wrong with the way I put it together, but ya never know. maybe one of the o-rings slipped out or something.
