Your asking why the sky is blue on this one mate.
The epiphany is essentialy an ion with a new body......so its as good as an ion can be called good.
That 98 you have will work fine to try it out, but will be a tad long and bulky if you start playing alot. See if you like speedball first, then look into a new gun.

i would avoid the ion all together and make the step up to a better used gun. The proto matrix series can be had quite cheaply.

First try out speedball with the 98, see if you like it than move from there. If you get an Ion, don't waste your money upping it. Save the money and buy a nice gun.

Now that I have a minute, I'll build off what Kaz said.
While I dislike the 98 because of its length, they are tougher than bootleather, probably one of the few guns that could rival the automag in durability. Try out speedball for a little while with it and you will get a feel for the style of play required in that format of paintball. You will also come to find out what im saying on length .
Once you decide whether you want to build a marker specifically for speedball, start looking in the used market. While the ion is a decent gun, by the time you upgrade it to the point you'll want it, you could have dropped the money on one of the myriad of used highend markers floating around. Generaly they're going to be a better marker, and will save you money in the long run. If I were you I might start looking at the shocker, proto matrix series, the angel G7 series, the older ego's, vikings, borgs, quest, or several others in the 500$ price bracket(used).

the only reason why they break is because millions of newbs buy them for there first gun, tear into them not knowing wtf they are doing, then they wonder how they did it. the ion is a very dependable gun and I would recommend it over and over again to newer players.

Well my Ion is fine, the only problem that I've ever had with it was the first time I used it...it leaked, but I took it apart and just kinda messed with the banjo fittings and then it was fine. But I love my Ion.

that is a problem that all ions had, at least back when they first came out. the hosing is slightly too lnog causing a leak.

As long as it's an SFT(2003 or later). I actually saw a kid get taken for four hundred dollars on a non-working shoebox the other day.

Noticed you mentioned a G7 and a Viking. They're both really nice markers the G7 is more hightech I prefer the viking though because it's easier to change settings (you dont have to take the grip off). For rec/fun speedball I would say the viking... nothing like chronoing your gun on eyesoff 13bps capped then in 2 seconds switching to eyes on unlimited bps with debounce 1, mowing people . If your going to play tournaments the g7 has way more upgrades, just as fast basically(can keep up with a halo or qloader), more tournament settings and is lockable(I'm pretty sure the viking is too, but why would I want to do that).
I have both, use them all the time.

You'll also waste a ton of money on it. Buy a better gun instead of burning money.
