Every paintball gun shoots EXACTLY as far as every other paintball marker, it's just basic physics. It will work fine, the mil-sim stuff you see on these"woodsball" marker is not necessary, and isn't used 75% of the time. You'll have a good time with it, especialy if your going to be playing multiple formats.

Do you need the whole pacakage, or just 400 on the gun?

yea aggie is right, people like the tippys and spyders more for woodsball because you can make the look like ak's and m16's and other guns. they arent performance upgrades just looks. they are also rugged and built like tanks.

wow in that price range there are some great guns available. pm5 and pm6's are available, shockers, A4 angels, maybe G7's(if your lucky), I believe 05 egos, promasters, intimidators.......you name a 2-3 year old high end(or in the case of the protos newer) and you've found one.
Take a look around this forums, pbn and automags.org's BST section, and if you find something your interested in, post a link here(or catch me on aim at Driftcav03) and we'll give you some feedback on the individual seller and the gun's price.

are you kidding me? that's the biggest waste of money ever. he's on a $400 budget and can get something MUCH better than an ion with a new body and bolt on it.

Like I've been telling him, I think a proto matrix series gun is a great option for him, or maybe an A4 angel.
He should be able to find a heavily upgraded gun thats ~a year old or less in those two series.
some on pbn
Sick PM5 w/ Tadao M3 - PbNation
nice 05 timmy
2K5 Timmy w/ups FS/T $375 obo - PbNation
dm5
Blue to Black DM5 plus other good stuff.... - PbNation
and theres more, just go digging. Might also look at the DP fusion, I've heard good things about them.

like what?
if he gets angel or matrix he will go over budget
i would have suggested invert mini but that is also 400$ and u hav to confgure in tax. basically what i am trying to say is when they ask you what is the best gun you can get for 400$, dont suggest matrixes or angels because some of them are way over. Also i think ud be lucky to get a PM6 for like 400 or even a PM5 for that, and even if u could odds are that it would be used/referb.

Who cares if the guns are used. I will never buy another new gun. They are so much easier to get used as long as you go to someone with good feedback.

JH has got it right, and if it is used they can tell you if its reliable or what problems it has had, whereas a new gun youll be the first to find out.

I'm with JH, used is preferable to new. You'll learn that the longer your around the sport, it's better to save 100's and by a used gun thats still in perfectly good shape....

Another reason many people use Tippy's and other "woodsball guns" is just that they are built to last. Ions feel lighter, and they fire faster, and you don't want the idea of I'm-the-best-because-my-gun-is-the-best.
Basically, I'd say that for speedball, Ions are great. Another thing, one of the best places to look is on Amazon. You can get an N2 tank, the marker, 12" barrel, e-hopper, pods, and more for just $300. I'd say that is your best bet. At that rate, you could even buy a P.O.S. gun to fool around with. Plus, don't spend 350 and not be able to buy more N2 and paintballs . . .

I'm still a big advocate of the VS spyders over the ions, simply because I think they are comparable guns, but there is much less startup expense in the spyder. The spyders also tend not to break as often......and when it does go, it's usually a cup seal or o-ring, not something major.

thats why i like tippys and spyders, they are easy to use built like tanks and if broke its usually and o-ring. Ions and all those other expensive guns are complex, usually they dont have braided lines so they leak (usually out the elbows and connectors). And if you ask me i dont think a gun should run on batteries. Its nice and all but i just think batteries should be for flashlights only. (that and i go throught to many paintballs with an ion, $40 for 2grand is not cheap).

With the 400 dollar budget, don't buy a new gun. I regret doing that and you probably would too. If you find someone on the nation with a nice gun and tank for around that price I would take it because it's basically the same as a new gun, just maybe someone held it before you. Just go on there every week and see what's new. Don't forget to buy a N2 tank and a nice hopper though.

Look for some 02 or 03 Autocockers you can get them pretty cheap and they are tankish . They are all metal and very easy to field strip and clean if needed. Lots of upgrades for them to. Also they are great for speedball.
