WHat is a feedneck?
i hear everyone talkin about "feedneck's" what are they and what are my options for upgrading with a smartparts ION?

A feedneck is the thing that holds your hopper to the gun. The smart parts one has 3 o-rings in it. If you dont have the money take the bottom 2 o-rings out. If you want to buy a new one, a Q-lock from smart parts is a good one, or maybe a CCM one.
Also you may want to upgrade to an on/off ASA (air source adapter, the place where you screw in the tank) because the tank threads and the duckbill ASA that it comes with will warp. After a while they will be completely ruined and you will need to pay $80 for a new reg and $40 for a new ASA but it can all be avoided with an on/off from teh get go.
The first 2 things to upgrade on an Ion is the feedneck and the ASA.

evokers is right get a custom products ASA on/off and q-lock feedneck and is the ion ur first gun

ok..this still seems kinda confusing to me, like where can i see pictures, diagrams etc. on how to change it etc.??
yesterday i ordered a freak barrel kit and a Halo B hopper, but it seems like i should be focusing on these 2 parts first?
as well, my gun right now has a On/Off valve on the gun?
like i can turn it to turn the gas on and off, as well as the tank itself has a valve to turn it on and off, is this an ASA? or is this just stock still?

You sound like you have an aftermarket on/off asa, you should be just fine with that.
Apologies for the terrible pic of my angel.......
a feedneck is simply threaded in, so it unscrews the same way. I beleive the smart parts section of this forum has a link to a very helpful video on installing a new feedneck.
It sounds like your on the right track with upgrades, the only thing left that is really worth the $$ is a new trigger, as I find the stock ion trigger quite.......disgusting.

k, just ton confirm, i took some pics:
i thought my trigger might have been aftermarket, but i didnt realize that blue gun isnt even an ion lol..anyways is that a stock asa i have? |

no it is not, that is a smart parts on off, one of the best in my opinions.

Im with kenny on that, next to a CCM it's one of the better ones on the market.
The blue gun is a LOOOOOOOONG way from an ion friend....thats a G7 angel.
The trigger is factory unless i'm very much mistaken.

and cp on/offs. and I had a good lol at the g7/ ion rendition. and yse that is a factory ion trigger.

I've watched those videos myself and found them highly useful, and I've been tinkering with pb guns for over a decade. there a good step by step breakdown, and the gentleman doing them is fairly knowledgeable and articulate.
my choice in on/offs would go something like
CCM
Hybrid push button
smart parts/ CP
