Dilemma

SO heres my dilemma...Im wondering on what paintball gun should i get...i would more often go speedball then woodsball..in the beginning i was leaning towards a a-5 that someone i know have.. it has a apex barrel, shoots up to 25 bps, and has W.A.S e-grip. can you guys recommend me a gun that is good for both speedball and woodsball?

WHAT is the best speedball gun?

There is no best gun mate. My personal favorite is either an e-pneumag(wich has to be custom built) or an angel G7. Some people are into egos, some are into DM's, it's personal preference.

Now, what price range are you talking about and we can give you some pointers on specific guns .

Are you willing to buy used, or are we talking new only?

Is that for EVERYTHING, tank hopper etc, or just a gun.

A gun only. New or used is not a problem

hmmm in that price bracket I would look at a used angel, maybe an A4, an intimidator, an SFT shocker, or a pm5(if your very lucky). Theres also the pro-master, the DP fusion, and the spyder VS2, or the ion(probably my last choice) in that price range.

Now with everything, I think the only good option is the VS2, your not even going to be able to set up a decent ion for that kind of price, but the VS2 should be no big thing.

out of the used market......an angel, timmy, or shocker would be my first choice on JUST the gun, realy 300 with everything isn't going to get you much beyond a verry used ion setup, a promaster, or the spyder.

To me it sounds like that is your best bet

what do you mean "setup"? It should be functional out of the box. The only "upgrades" I would do to an ion are add a new feedneck and trigger and an ASA/rail combo, other than that your pretty much wasting your money....

I would take the ion over the A-5 because it's a shorter gun in general. I think an ion with a nice trigger and a feedneck will still be sub-300.

the apex barrel is not much of an upgrade.

the e-grip is alright, but the a-5 is still a long and uncomfortable gun to tuck in tight behind a bunker with ....

dont worry about the barrel it's fine the way it is.

Hopper-about 100$(less if used)
and a minimum of 80 on an HPA tank.

If your gonna buy a used ion, make sure it is from someone you trust. Normally, online is not a problem-but there are a disporportionate amount of people out there that abuse their ion's (since it is a cheap, but complicated gun-so a lot of people screw things up). Not that you should be intimidated about the matnience involved in owning one-just read the manual and youll be fine.

That said, the market is flooded with used ions right now-so if you buy used you can pick up a nice, up'd one for real cheap. I'd look for one that has a new feedneck(ccm, q-lock), barrel(smart parts), and bottomline(asa-cp, new designz) at least. If you want to spend a lil extra, get one with a new board(blackheart, tadao), trigger(cp, new designz), regulator(cp, hyper 2), and/or body(dynasty, redz). Although i wouldnt advise buying one online, make sure to take a look at pbn's b/s/t section to get a feel for prices.

In terms of the rest of the set-up:
Get either a cheap used halo(preferably with rip drive, NOTE: not a reloader, should be about $60-80) or a new VL Revolution(should be about $15-20, wont feed as fast as the gun can shoot-but will be a lot cheaper, lighter, battery efficent, and more reliable). Please, dont buy any of the smaller brand's hoppers out there(ie: tippmann triumph, kingman fasta, halo tsa, ect)-theyre mainly just gimicky. And dont buy an evolution, for too many reasons to list.

Youll also need an air tank. This is a neccessity. I meant neccessity. Unless you want your investment to die and for you to live in shame for the rest of your life: Dont use co2 with an Ion. I dont care if your "friends" say it works fine-it doesnt(any real friend would never say such a thing). Hyperbole aside, if you have money to spend grab a used fiber-wrapped tank, either 68ci or 45ci, no larger. Also, if your gonna buy a fiber-wrapped, might as well spend the extra $10-20 and get a 4500psi one rather then a 3000psi. Used they should run about $100, new theyll cost around 180.

If your looking cheaper, then grab a steel tank. Get a 48ci/3000psi-dont be suckered into buying a 72ci tank. please. dont. In my opinion a steel tank is a much better option in terms of bang for your buck. You can pick up a used one for under $20, and a new one for around 50.

Either way be mindful of the hydro dates, and try to avoid buying one thats gonna be up soon.

Good brands for tanks are crossfire, Pure Energy, Lucky, and Draxxus. Try to avoid Air America, Dye, and WDP(if they still even make tanks).

Dont forget about getting a new mask too. Id much rather have a ****ty gun and good mask then vica-versa. Proflexs and Profilers are best. Maybe vents if you can find lenses reliably.

An A5 with upgrades isn't even comparable to an ion with upgrades. The physical design of the A5 will make it always be the infereor marker, regardless of upgrades.
