Ion question
OK..here goes the dumb question...just got finished with my first pb experience...had a blast. Now I'd like to know what the hell I'm doing. I bought an Ion and a Freak barrel kit. How in the hell do you figure out the board settings on this thing? I can't get it to shoot anything but semi auto...any help would be great. The manual is very confusing to me and I don't have a 3 year old sone to explain it to me.

I made a little manual for the Ion that breaks stuff down in a way the manual doesnt. Here is a little exerpt from it. Hope it helps. Also this question should go in the Ion forum.
-The Modes on an Ion can be a little tricky at first but once you learn how to do it its pretty simple. Take the grips off and press the white button on the black box until your L.E.D. blinks double yellow. To change modes, press your on/off button until you get to the mode you want. The gun starts at semi. The order of the modes is:
(# of times start button pressed)(Mode)
None - Semi
Once – Rebound ramping
Twice – 3 shot burst
Thrice – Full Auto
Now, you want to change modes back. Go to the double blink red light. Depending on what mode you are in just click your on/off button to move up the list that I just set out. Ex: If you change your gun to 3 shot burst and want it to be back at Semi, go to the double blinking red and click the on/off button twice. See how simple that is?

You've gone paintballing once? And right after that you go out and buy an ion?? You should really learn more about the sport before you buy a gun like that. I mean you don't even know how to work it. COME ON! And there is always advantages from chaning out stock boards for upgraded boards. That's common sense.

I found the Ion manual to be VERY helpful when it came to setting the board.

No offense, but Silence...leave him alone. Maybe he plans on going places in paintball so he bought a good gun. Don't hassle him over it.

Thank-you...I'm 40...never really liked buying something less than "good" when buying something new. I asked for opinions when I went to the sporting goods store and spoke to a sales person that seemed like he knew what he was talking about and I think he did. I read reviews on the Ion and it seemed like the marker to purchase. I don't like buying something and then a month later kicked my self in the butt because I should have invested in the better marker. It just seemed like the board setup was a little confusing, it was even confusing for the sales professional at the sporting goods store and he had to get help. For the most part, I think I have it figured out. Thanks for the help from ALL of you experts and even silencetrigger....it don't bother me about the posts, I'm a grown up and understand childish behavior.

number 1. i never said it wasn't a good gun so don't start implying that. #2 i never said that he wasn't going places in paintball or anything. #3 "splay boy" and you're 40?? that adds up. Real mature name there. Look i was just pointing out you should know as much as possible about the gun you're purchasing before you buy it. And there are a lot of guns that aren't "less then good" out there so i don't even know what you ment by that. and you say the sporting goods store guy knew what he was talking about, yet he had to go ask a question about the gun he was trying to sell to you. and childish behavior? buddy, you asked if an upgraded board was worth it... i think its pretty childish that you don't even know a little common sense. And there is always something better out there, so you might want to chill on kicking yourself in the butt.

Stop trying to start a fight. It's the frickin' internet, now settle down.
Anyways, the Ion is a nice gun for being only 180 (at my local proshop), and I wouldn't really get a blackheart board, the best board for price would have to be the t-board. Most people would agree on that, only 80 dollars and has the same modes as virtue and many people have gotten it to go pretty fast on their ION. The modes of fire on the stock board are very very very confusing. But the bad thing is, I think that once you turn your ION off, the mode resets back to semi. So I don't even change the mode, taking on and off the grip is very annoying. I'd wait till you got a new board and a membrane pad to switch modes, just so that you don't have to take the grips off and you can just press the button on the frame. PBN has a survey that's stickied in the ION section that is the Official best Ion upgrades thread. Just look at that and see what people put in for their responces, there's a ton of them so look at them carefully and just see what's affordable to you and what you think will be worth the amount of money that you're thinking about paying.

It's a great marker, but it's not nearly the best marker you can buy. however, it's going to keep up with anything else out there so I say you've spent your money well.
I got ahold of one my roommate owned an the only real problem I have with it(besides that smart parts makes i..but that's another story for another time) is that in order to clean it out, you have to take off the grip frame and air lines to get to anything. it was scary as heck to pull the board out of the marker because I thought for sure i was going to break it or something when I was puling it out.

I wouldnt get the blackheart. For the same price you can get a tboard which are much better and at my local proshop you can get a virtue for the same price. The Blackheart isnt very good compared to some alternatives.
