Well, because your a beginner I would recommend a Tippmann 98 c(like everyone else)or a BT=Ben Tippmann, all the same.
The Reason: Tippmanns are very reliable, you will hear this from almost everyone at a paintball forum if you take a survey. Tippmanns are very nice for their price if you just buy the gun alone. The 98c was my first gun and it worked nice. Tippmanns also have plenty of upgrades for them. Paintball, Skateboard, Airsoft, Apparel and Snowboard Gear at ActionVillage.com probably has a good amount, and if you have some money you can upgade to an E-Grip and make your gun electronic. Just be sure to get a nice hopper though that can feed enough balls to the gun fast enough. You don't really need to go over an EvoII if you get an E-Grip. But Tippmanns are recommended by most for a beginner gun. Don't waste your time with a responce trigger though, reason is it is illegal in some tourneys.
I wouldn't really waste your money on too many upgrades for it though, since the Ion is only about 50 dollars away, and the Ion is nice because it too has many upgrades and is already electronic. But the Ion is a whole 'nother thing. Takes Compressed air instead of Co2. (don't know if you know that already.
But anyway, the Tippmann 98custom is recomended.

Spyder Victor. Use the extra money to get better parts(better mask like a proflex/profiler, revvy, new barrel, etc).
Or, buy a used tippmann 98c. I wouldnt usually recomend buying a used, low end gun-but its hard to go wrong with a tippy.
It's pointless to get a more expensive spyder since all the mech ones are pretty much the same(minus the gimicks), and the e-spyders will just make you shoot more paint with less results(you wont learn to aim, or to play at all).

...wheres the edit button...
But I always disliked the 98c, due to its mechanical firing it seemed to never work, albeit that i play Speedball so that would probably explain my bias opinion, but for that i'd go for a electro spyder or Piranha ( also known as PMI ) but if u play woodsball than ya get a 98c

i've never had a problem with my 98c firing, i'm sure it could happen but since they're such simple guns anything's an easy fix on them. however i agree with you completely about the speedball, if you're going to play any type of speedball at all DON'T go with the 98c. they're strictly woodsball rec guns. nothing more, nothing less.
