Newbie here, getting into it...
Okay, so I've only played paintball once, and that was a while ago, but now I'm getting into it more (Only got hit once in a total of two hours and shot a few people). So I'm wondering about gear. Is the Tippmann A5 a good gun for somewhat beginners?
I also don't have many friends that play paintball, so do most places have like teams or something?

the only thing i can say about your first gun, is look around first, don't get to stuck on something. try looking at cheaper electronic guns for around the same price, so that way, you still have around the same firepower as all the other players. and also, it depends on what your playing, if your going to be playing woodsball only, than sure, the a5 is great, but the more you get into it, and you start playing speedball, your gonna want to upgrade, so search around and try to shoot as many in person as possible, and of course, there are always people at fields on a good day, but if you want to get on a filed team, you gotta be pretty good. just go meet new friends that will go with you and just keep learning.try to get into the paintball scene a little more to, to get to know the lingo. starting out, just have fun until your ready to spend a lot of money. alot of places have tippmanns as rentals, so try one out first.

Thanks for the input guys. I got one question about shoes though. What are good shoes for playing? I've been looking at pics and it doesnt seem like there wearing sneakers or skate shoes, but more like track shoes. I dunno, what is it?
About the gun, I'd seem like I'd play tons of speedball, and occasional woodsball. So what would be a good upgrade if I need to for speedball. I really have no budget limit right now. So any gun, as long as it's not ridiculously expensive, would do.

If your playing indoors, look for some Turf Football shoes.
If you have no budget limit...Look around at your options. And how much is too expensive?

Probably like $600 (Including barrels, masks, clothing, etc), I guess that's my budget :P
I doubt i'll ever play indoors. No place around here that has that I think.

just buy some cheap football cleats, those will work fine, or golf shoes, something like that. the gun, probably an ion, maybe the dangerous power fusion, the proto matrix rail, the invert mini. you won't be dissapointed with any of those, although for the pmr fusion and mini, you might need to get a little more money since you gota buy and electric hopper and hpa tank. i'd probably go with an ion, i know everyone hates that, but really, its a great gun and can do both woods and speedball fine. just look around

Well is the Ion highly customizable? (Sorry for all these noob questions =\)
What is good stuff to customize on a stock gun also? Barrels and hoppers?

yah, the ion is pretty much the most customizable gun. actually, you can make your own one with all aftermarket parts pretty much. stock it shoots 17 bps, so any hopper that feeds that is more than enough. don't bother with the epiphany, since it's pretty much an upgraded ion, save for the firing chamber thing. definatly want to start out with a barrel, you have to get a hopper. the halo that i have would always pull out the orings on the stock feed neck, so i got a clamping one. if your gonna get a barrel, invest in a good one. possibly two piece. althoguh the cp one pieces are pretty awsome. so upgrades, barrel, feedneck, trigger, board (t boards are good), new detents, so you don't have to always replace them, bolt, theres alot stuff. again just look around, alot of sites like actionvillage.com have areas where you can see alot of the upgrades for several guns, including the ion.
