Need info on clothes for paintball.
Hi all. My son will be in his first match this coming Sunday. (7/22) We have all the "hardware" but not sure about the proper clothes. We got a paintball video for beginners that was useless. didn't even mention the proper clothes to wear. Everyone in the video had a longsleeve loose fitting pullover shirt. Could not tell if this was layered with anything underneath.
Can anyone tell me what kind of clothes to wear? someone mentioned a heavy pullover, but it might be close to 90 deg. that day.

Just wear pants and a t-shirt. If you are really worried about getting hurt wear a t-shirt and a thin long sleeve shirt.

I'd suggest a pair of Cargo pants and a long-sleeve shirt.

Cargo pants are good and you could try a semi-thick (yet light and breathable)hoodie or pull over.

basically id just wear something that meets the following:
1. can get dirty / torn. Your son might find himself sliding, rubbing against things, etc. This can lead to the clothing being torn or worn. Although usually the paint from a paintball washing out, on occasion, there can be staining.
2. depending on the weather, you might opt to wear lighter colored clothing to just stay cooler. If he is playing in a field that is wooded, light colors will make him easy to spot, but your in usually in a shaded area so you can wear dark colors. If the field is an open area with obsticales, (called bunkers) and basically in the open sun, a lighter color would help keep him cooler. While on the this subject, bring a fair amount of water.
3. As for layering, it all depends on the person's preference. I tend to wear nothing more than a short sleever shirt and cargo pants. Cargo pants are baggier than jeans and allow for better movement while running and can help prevent a ball from breaking and marking him as "out". If is more or less nervous about a paintball hurting he could wear an additional layer of clothing, but not so much as to overheat him. Being hit is not that bad after the first few times. And yes, it leaves welts.

I wouldn't suggest him wearing too much because of the facts that:
A) He could overheat
B) Too thick of layers could provide him with a lot of unfair bounces and anger players.

well
if he's an aggressive player, knee pads and elbow pads are very very nice to have available. I went paintballing yesterday and banged them up pretty badly without pads.
next time I go I'll have a thin sleeveless t-shirt with baggy levi shorts, elbow wraps and knee pads. Boots can be good to have too, not sure how good they are compared to tennis shoes when doing paintball

Boots? Tennis shoes? I've never really heard of that before. I've always used cleats, and that's what I've always heard suggested. Does you're sone have ANY kind of cleats? Soccer and football work the best, but baseball would work too.

The ideal footware for paintball would usually be some type of cleat (soccer or football seem to be best). Tennis shoes will work as well, just make sure they have a nice aggressive tread pattern.
Boots could work, but they are generally heavier and might restrict movement to a degree.

Baseball cleats work to a degree. As long as the terrain isn't real soupy, because then you slip as if you're in bare feet on a slip-and-slide.

I would purchase some of these elbow pads.
Centurion Protective Elbow Pads
They are as tough as a nail, I fell really hard didn't leave a mark and didn't have any type of pain.
As for shoes cleats are best easy to run in and won't trip you up.

just wear something that can get dirty, jeans are fine, and short sleeve t shirt, layering isn't nesecary unless he is scared to get hit, if not, just go with jeans and t-shirt. sweatpants work real well to. if not cleats, tennis shoes will do fine for a first timer, because he's probably not going to go running around all crazy, just go and see what works for him.

Hey guys I'm going for the first time tomorrow. Will it be okay if I wear one of my exercise shorts and a Tshirt? I mean one of these:
Also, all I need for protection is a mask, right?

if thats really what you want to do, then sure, yes you will NEED a mask, anything else is optional. just keep in mind that your probably going to be on your knees in grass or ground, and in my opinion, its just not the best idea, but what ever floats your boat.

My first time out i wore light, almost windbreaker style pants, (but had more material to them) and a long sleeve shirt. I was perfectly fine, no over heating, easy to run/maneuver, and fairly padded to ball strikes.

So... I went last week with those running pants. I got shot in the balls, and I couldn't stand for 5 minutes
