Nitrogen

I have a question about Nitrogen tanks, well basically what does the ci and psi stand for...also is Nitrogen filled up with compressed air or am I totally wrong? Like I was looking at this one tank that says 68ci 4500psi, is this good or bad, how many paintballs can I shoot with this...Im like a total noob to paintball, I played it before but Im looking to get really into it and buy myself a better gun and start playing it more then before. So I basically need to learn all these things...so help would be appreciated with this question I have above..thanks everyone!

Greetings,

Yes a "Nitrogen tank" is basically compressed atmospheric air.

ci= Cubic inches - or the "volume" the tank will hold
psi= pounds per squre inch - or the 'pressure' the tank will hold.

So 68/4500 will hold 68 cubic inches of air at 4500 pounds per square inch.

As to the total number of shots - depends on your marker's gas efficiency. If you look in the air systems sticky I believe there is a chart that shows roughly how many sots/tank you can get.

Welcome to the forums and to the sport.

Nitrogen tanks, Hpa tanks, compressed air tanks = the same thing. CI is cubic inches I think and psi is Pounds per square inch.

EDIT: Medic answered you in a more fast, detailed fashion. I guess I'll just have to be faster next time.

just on average your typical paintgun and 68/4500 tank should net you 1000 shots give or take about a 100

It's inaccurate to throw out a number like that, there is no "average" gun. Each method of operation varies greatly in terms of efficiency, and how each gun is setup (tuning, upgrades, etc.).

By the way, the vast majority of guns can get above 1000 shots on a 68/45. Any model designed this year should be able to get you 1200 and up.

fair enough....

i've always read and seen the average amount of shots from a 4500psi tank should be 15 shots per cubic inch so 68 cubic inches would put you at 1020 mathematically, but I do realize not every gun is the same, some guns have regulators, some do not, some guns tuned up regularly, some guns badly neglected, what chrono speed your trying to set it for etc.... all these variables do affect things, your absoloutely right, I've never had a very high end super efficient gun so I didn't know you could squeeze over 1200 shots out of one, my mistake, most anything I've owned or had chance to mess with was about 2 bags worth of paint usually before the tank was done, just dont mind me i guess

Right. It all depends on the setup that you have. If you have an aftermarket bolt, qev, etc, you're going to get more shots per tank fill. Plus, if you shoot constantly, you don't give the tank time to recharge, and will get less shots per tank fill.

I've read the 10 shots per ci for 3000psi and 15 per ci for 4500psi as well, and that may have been somewhat accurate at some point... maybe when I first read it 5 years ago... but guns have improved quite a bit since then. Now a days, if you have a mid to high end gun and you're not getting at least 1200 from a 68/45 tank, there's something wrong; many high ends are capable of 1800+. Many low end guns shoot be getting 1200+ as well, such as the Ion, VS Spyders, PMR, etc.

Cool thank you all for explaining this to me, I need to start reading about this stuff so I don't stay a noob forever... also this is gonna be hella retarded but is it possible to fill up a CO2 tank with compressed air, even if it has never been filled up before....? or is this totally impossible...
