im a newb.

hey everyone first off i want to say thanks for takin' the time to read this.

I recently just started Paintballing and i wanted a few pointers. i have only played woodball but im planning on going to an indoor field soon.

i have a Spyder Xtra '07 totally stock! im pretty sure im going to stay with the Xtra for a while but im hoping to add some upgrades.

so here's my question.
How/what should i upgrade first and why?
Does Strafing work?

should i buy a coil?
barrel?

Thanks!

buy a J&J or CP barrel, you'll find it's the best upgrade you can get.

strafing only works in video games. you'll find out how to play better as you play by the mistakes you make.

what sort of paintball do you play?

I'm personally not so sure I would upgrade a spyder. They are fine beginner markers but if you put more than $300 into it, you would just be better off buying a new better marker. If you really wanted to spend some money you could upgrade the barrel, even a moderately priced one piece would be fine.

Strafing ... as in running sideways? Kind of, running and shooting is an important skill that definitely comes in handy. However its not nearly as simple as in video games!

Stick to strafing in video games. In paintball you want the smallest profile possible. Less is more.

For your spyder, I would pick up a barrel ASAP. 12-14 inches. J+J Ceramic, CP one or two piece. I'd also suggest thinking about buying a nice electric hopper and HPA tank so in the case you want to buy a new gun in the future, you won't be stuck with CO2 and a shake n bake. I'd suggest the tank before the hopper, a fiber wrapped 68/4500 will do you good.

And don't get a coil.

thanks this is all good advice

EDiT: we play wood ball usually 4 on 4s. all we really do is slay the other team. or we play boundaries.

READ ME! xD... Ok I've been paintballing for a few months so i dont know too much, but i had a spyder sonix for a while, recently i got a Pilot ACS, The spyder sonix is a great gun, all you need for it is like a Smartparts linear barrel, VERY accurate and cheap like $30 comes in 14,16 and 20 inches... Or get a Xcel barrel 12" barrel, also very good. And when you decide to get a new gun, i highly suggest the pilot ACS, its pretty good... Buy like a eVLution 3 hopper (EGG 3), and use that barrel you got, and if you really gonna get into paintball, buy a dye grip and a lucky board spitfire...Maybe keep the sonix as a backup gun. :B (The pilot comes with a pretty good Trigger too)25 BPS i think it was

P.S. The sonix doesnt need a eletric trigger or hopper so you Dont need to buy the EGG 3 hopper and Dye Sticky E frame grip unless your get the pilot or another paintball gun thats a eletric or a bit more adavanced on the spyder line...the grip really helps for the pilot...

P.S.S. The Sonix is a lil bit faster then the extra, and still pretty accurate, I play paintball alot now trying to get better and better and the sonix was a bit more accurate then the extra and faster...

i got the exact same gun...here is my setup...palmer brass barrel (12 inch) accurate as hell
shocktech superfly bolt (this thing will never chop,at least not on mine)
those are the only upgrades i have on my gun...besides the crossfire 68/3000 hpa tank, and the viewloader evolution 3 hopper...

but if you want a good and fast beginner gun...get an ion.. very upgradeable, fast...strong....looks cool...good luck
