I need a seasoned players advice
Alright, so i'm not stranger to paintball. I have been several times, and i have been wanting a gun of my own for years probably. Obviously the first time i went, we rented guns they were tippman 98 customs. The next time i went i had borrowed a friends Spyder Xtra, and every time after that i used that same gun. Now im finally looking to buy a gun, and since the last time i was looking things have changed ALOT. I used to know what was what, and now im a little lost. I want something that is not entry level but maybe a few steps up, i have no problem disassembling guns and servicing them properly. I want something that is versatile enough to play everything, rec ball, woodsball, speedball, whatever. I have been looking at the VS2's and VS'3, Ions, Trilogy cockers, and the epiphany. I'm open to ideas though, i haven't seen everything there is to offer yet. I'm looking for something to get into the sport that wont be obsolete right away, and something i can grow with. So can anyone help me make a better informed decision? I have been researching for 3 days and i cant seem to come to a head with just 2 guns. Looking for eyes, HPA, agitated loader, and something that isn't too finnicky. Thanks in advance, i know my post was horribly long. I appreciate everyones help in advance, and sorry for asking probably the same question as a million other people.

your long post helped clear up what many people can't seem to tell us in 4 or 5 posts
Are you interested in buying a used marker? if so that opens you up to many many more options.
look at a Proto rail or invert mini, PM7. those are all $400-$550

I'd like to keep everything (marker, tank, hopper) around 500 or less if it can be done. But if i can really benefit from buying a little more expensive gun, ill just save up. I know that when it comes to things like paintball cutting corners puts you in a worse spot then spending a little more money. I also kinda like the idea of running a remote tank in a pack, seems like it would be easy to manuever on the playing field. Is this a good idea?

A remote pack doesn't help much. in fact, without a tank, you're left with nothing to rest your on your shoulder
here's what I would do if i were you:
Search PBnation for used tanks that are still in hydro, you can find some good deals there. get a 68/45 or a 45/45 fiber wrapped tank. that'll run you about $100-$120
Also buy a used empire b, halo b or Velocity from the same place. this will cost $60-$100
Now you're left with about $260-$300 for a marker.
fro that price you can buy quite a bit of older used markers, or you can buy a Promaster, ION, or spyder VS2 brand spanking new.

Well i was looking at some packages with an ion, a tank, and a halo hopper for like 300 bucks, comes with a trigger and clamping feedneck. But i guess ions are gay? Whats that all about, and are the trilogy cockers any good? I know when i was looking to buy last i was gonna get a $400 cocker, now they are much cheaper? I also liked the Evil Omen when i was in the market last, are those any good or are they sub par?

a lot of new players who are idiots buy the ION because it's cheap.
Heck, I found a electro cocker with a tank and quite a few upps on it a year ago for around $400.
Actually here is the thread about it. better pm him though, that threads been dead for about 1/2 a year.
Cheap E2ed Cocker Kit For Mad Cheap - PbNation
the evil omen isn't a full electro pneumatic marker, making it mechanically capped at around 15-18 bps. (as far as I know)

I don't mind if its completly mechanical, I don't necessarily need eyes or and e-grip. I want something that will shoot reliably and accurately, and as i get better shoot fairly quick. Also, is there anything wrong with the aluminum nitro tanks, im guessing they are heavier? But other than that i would imagine if the capacity is they same they will perform the same... And while im at it, what does everyone think of the richochet agitated loader? i like the design and was lookin at them a while back. Any good?

right. metal tanks are quite a bit heavier.
the ricochet hopper is alright if you have a mech marker. but if you plan on getting an electronic marker I'd at least get an eggy.

I just got the Invert Mini. Its crazy!!! I haven't stopped laughing!!! Its crazy small!! its crazy light!!! And it crazy FUN!!!! The stock board is fast!! It has a magnetic trigger. The stock barrel is actually really good. Its quiet. And new its under 500 bucks!!
A full hopper is heavier than the marker. A 68 cubic inch 4500 psi air tank is heavier than the marker. Its crazy!!! It has no external hoses!!! ITS CRAZY!!!

the mini is a pretty sweet marker. I held one with a stubby tank and it was like holding a beautiful woman.

I would definitely look into a Mini. Used, they are selling as low as 275-300 dollars. Then go with what martix said about the tank and empire b. I'd go with the Empire B because it's sound activated rather than having eyes, which means EVERYtime you shoot, the hopper will turn on, forcing a ball almost instantaneously.
One thing to watch out for with PBNation, though, is scammers, just make sure who you're dealing with has plenty of positive feedback, talk with him on aim, call him up, get his info and such so that you can report him/her if necessary. I've never been scammed but have seen it done plenty of times. Nothing to dwell on too heavily but just something to keep in the back of your mind.
Good luck.

Hmmm, i will have to look into getting a mini, but me being the person i am, i would rather save and buy new then buy someones used marker, maybe if i find a new in box, or seldom used one i would consider it. Thanks for the help so far guys, i think i am getting closer to a decision. I appreciate everyones time.
Oh and if anyone plays in Southwest Missouri, around Springfield/Joplin, let me know. I dont have anyone to go with haha.

i'm currently in the Rolla area for school. Springfield is about an hour away for me but I don't know any of the good fields. I'd be willing to drive out if you know some good spots worth my time.
I really don't have anything to add about the guns, it's been pretty well covered.

I'm about and hour from springfield as well, haven't been to any of the paintball areas yet, i have just read reveiws, and it sounds like there are on or two good ones in springfield. I really want to check out the Underground in Joplin, they have arenas in caves, and a concrete castle above ground. Like i said though, i only know from the reveiws i have read.

If I had to decided between a brand new ion and a used mini.. I'd buy the mini in a heartbeat. Used really only affects cosmetics unless the previous owner didnt do anything to do the gun. Clean, lube, etc.. But I get why you're hesitant to buy used, it's probably a good thing I guess.
Good luck.
