Couple of guns
Hey...pretty new here and just had a couple of questions for you pros out there. Want a new gun. I play mainly woods and was looking at the vs1, vs2, vs3, a5 or the ion. They seemed to me to be the best options as per player reviews. My main concerns are durability, how upgradeable it is (don't want to buy another gun for a while)and accuracy. Let me know what you think or if any other guns are better...don't want to spend too much $. Thanks for any input.

start out by forgetting about the vs1 and vs3.
vs2: best spyder yet. great for beginners. works well. easy to maintain.
a5: popular with rec/woods/milsim players. built like a tank.
ion: electro pneumatic. will shoot very well. in a performance category
above the other two. hassle to maintain.
all your choices have a LOT of upgrades out there, but dumping a lot of
money into a lower end gun really isn't worth it. sure you can spend
$500 on ion upgrades and it will shoot almost like a high end, and definitely
tourney capable, but it's still an ion. hard to maintain and resale will
be very low. the other two are still just going to be blowbacks....
it also depends a lot on what your future playing plans are. if you're at
all thinking of doing tourney's just get the ion, or even get a fusion,
mini or pmr. they will need very few upgrades and cost only slightly more.
also, i believe the only gun you mentioned that will run well on co2 is the a5.

The VS1 will run on C02. It doesn't require high pressure air like the VS2 and 3.
If your'e playing woodsball, I assume you don't have the ability to refill a tank throughout the day. If that's the case, stick with a marker that can use CO2 because HPA tanks don't' hold as many shots and are also more expensive

i'm not too concerned about the HPA issue becasue i play mainly at a field 5 mins from my house and they have free co2 or air all day. so as of right now you say go with the vs2? i mainly plan on woods and scenario play. Prolly will never enter a tourney.

Yeah, but you might enter a woodsball or a scenario game or tournament (D-day, WW2, etc).

Ions are often said to hard to keep up with, and sense your a beginner we dont want you getting all confused and upset. The VS series the newest and best brand of spyders out there, perferabbly the VS2 the VS3 is the VS2 with different paint and a rocking trigger, illegal in most tournaments. I've never used the A-5 but I highly suggest the VS1 and VS2, go to the gun commparison fourm, look up MR1 or Tippnman 98 C or something, I made few post in there about the VS1 and VS2 and pilot ACS.

The best marker in those above is definately VS2-VS3. They are basically the sames, exept the VS3 has the rocking trigger, which is worhtless IMO. Thoses are really nice marker, no doubt on this.
But you seem to have great interests in Woods/Scenario. Which prolly means you'll soon want something looking like a real gun for some scenarios. As i said, the VS2-VS3 are the greatest choice for performance, but if you care about the look of mil-sim markers, then you should check somewhere else.
The A-5 is prolly the marker with the most body upgrades for mil-sim, which could be a point. Also, Kingman made the MR series, spyders with a mil-sim look, and the MR3 is electronic, with anti-chop eyes, which is great.
I suggest you to check at your local field, and try some there. Soon you'll know what you want. If you want performance, VS2. If you want the look : MR3 or Tippmann A-5 (the MR3 over the A-5 because it's electronic and have eyes).

Thanks for all the info guys. I don't care all that much what it looks like, actually kinda like the look of the VS2 over the A5. If you have any other recommendations other than the guns I listed please feel free...as I appreciate all the insight.

the promaster is much better and the price just dropped to $180!
but are you a new player/marker owner? if so, you'll be happier with a VS2

I may not know a whole bunch about guns, but for what I have read (and I have researched quite a bit), Spyders in general are very easy to clean, lube, in other words, easy to disassemble and reassemble... That's why I'm going for one of them for my starter gun... Also, in most reviews I saw about Spyder guns, they said that it was a great gun for the price

kevlar hit the nail on the head.
Spyders are very noob friendly. They are easy to maintain and can take all sorts of weird abuse.

Wouldn't you think they would supply air to those?, or is it because its cheaper or more common, like because its more bang for the buck?

The promaster is the best choice out of all of those, it won't be as reliable as a tippmann or spyder but it will definitely perform. I'd choose the ion or 98c (if you want something really reliable). Both have tons of upgrades.
