sport will have a hard time growing unless....PLEASE READ

The paintball world finds a way to make it easier to play. I LOVE PAINTBALL! I love the intensity of it. I Love the adrenaline rush! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT, however I never get to play it. The paintball industry makes it so hard to play the "fun" kind of paintball. The only paintball I really ever want to play is what they used to call "speedball" or they may still call it that, but its basically just tournament (NPPL) style. I dont want to go out in the woods and shoot off 5 paintballs per round. I want to shoot a fast gun, slide into bunkers, get shot 6 times before i can even say hit, and just play an intense round of paintball. Right now I have to pay 60-70 bucks to get a crappy gun that chops balls every 3 sec. I have to play on a crappy field with sticks and mud everywhere. My gun almost always has problems. Its soooo slow pace that I could practically take a nap for 15 min. before someone finally sneaks up on me and TELLS ME TO SURRENDER. I want to bunker people and I want to be bunkered. Every time I tell someone to surrender they usually just try shooting me out of natural reaction anyways. Anyways...I went to the NPPL event in KC and I love it. I have played the "fun" type of paintball one time and fell in love, however I am 23 and married and starting a photography buisness so its not like I have 1000 to play serious paintball all the time. I want to be able to go somewhere and get a decent gun, with a lot of paint, and some pods to keep that paint in and I want to play on a fun field with air bunkers for less than 100 dollars...isnt that reasonable. The cost of paint is WAAAYYYY too high and The equipment isnt even worth the renting price. ANYWAYS...Like i said..I love paintball. If I could play it for real, it would probably be in my top two or three sports and I think it would be like for a lot of people if they ever had a chance to play intense paintball. I just want paintball players responses on this subject. I think the sport would grow sooo much if the prices were more reasonable. what do you think?

Usually paint is so high is because most fields issue a B.Y.O.P (Bring your own paint) and it gets exspenive because they don't regularly get paint or Safety paint that explodes if it goes any faster then the stated FPS (feet per second) limit which is unique and hard to make (sorta). And It isn't always so expsenive to play, get like a season pass to a good field, usually if you buy some stuff from there store after spending a few $ you get a season pass. And you say you use a rental a nd a rental is sucky. GET YOUR OWN GUN, if you like it some much go out and grab one, and go to Pbreivew.com and look type in your Zip code and it can give you fields up 200 miles away. Getting a season pass from buying a gun from a local store then bring the season pass and your own paintballs and equipment elimates the price of having to use rentals, balls, and feild fees. And all day air is usually like $10 or something. thus only $10 or $20 for one day. BTW, some fields have speedball course, look around.

I was looking at "renting" equipment, but decided that buying an inexpensive marker would just be easier and cheaper in the long run. I didn't bying anything expensive or hard to maintain. My wife actually purchased me the marker for Christmas and her/my family all my goodies 8-)

I think all together I may have $400, but that's buying everything brand new. This includes marker, feedneck, barrel, hopper, x2 20oz CO2 tanks, mask, gloves, pack, 5 tubes, and pants. I know it seems like a lot but most of it carries over no matter the marker you own as well. Then it's just as Noobie said about paying field cost w/ all day air. Plus, then you learn your marker and become a better player.

I would agree with purchasing your own equipment and finding closer fields. The paint is kind of like going to fast food or sit downn resturant. You might get a good meal here and there at the fast food place, but you get consistancy and garentee of good food when you eat sit down. (i.e. you get what you pay of when it comes to paint)

My 2 Cents

BYOP would make it cheaper. Safety paint doesn't exist.

Paintball is expensive because its worth it, thats that. You shouldn't be paying more than 70 for a case, all day air and admission. If you are then you're getting ripped off.

So like I said. I do not want to play on a team or play a ton, but I would love to play like 6 or 7 times a year. I do not want to buy a cheap gun because it's usually just a waste of money. I already have a JT accelerator or something like that and a electronic hopper (whatever they are called...one of the old school nice ones.) I also have a what used to be nice barrel (Lapco bigshot.) I have an old nitro tank, but I think you have to get them tested every three years and I bought it like 4 years ago. It's paint also that cost so much. It's like 70 bucks for good paint that flies decently straight and doesn't chop every other ball. When I went and played last time it was like 75 dollars and that was sharing paint with a friend and playing with a kinda crappy gun a.k.a a wannabe good gun. And of coursssssee...we all got shot out by some guy with a autococker that was shooting like 3 times as fast as us. Anyways...thank you for the response. I really do think this is the main reason why more people arent involved in paintball. My brother thinks the same way as I do and pretty much everyone I ask they all say it is way too expensive. I love it, but like I said...I am also a almost pro photographer so a lot of my money is going to that. I just want to play a little bit, but its a waste of money for me to go play in the woods with a sucky gun, paint, and field.

it costs us $50 for a day of paintball at the place I go to. the markers are crud, the paint is crud, the ref doesn't do anything but stand there.... but DAMN is it worth it I could spend $40 in an hour at a bar and have half the fun I do getting shot in the balls playing paintball.

BYOB, there is a concept I have _NEVER_ heard of. we have three different paintball businesses within 30km of my house, and all three of them explicitly demand you use their own balls.

on a side note, I am a photographer myself and shot large format (read : $3-$10 an exposure) and photography is where all of my free money goes, but I don't find any problems with the cost associated with paintball. I don't make much money either, a few bucks an hour more then your average walmart employee. quit spending so much money on glass my friend

Really, buying your own gun doesn't cost much, if you gonna play it like why bother play when you prolly will only do it 6 times a year? go to local store paint doesn't plain out totally suck, might not be incredible but won't be too horrible, Unless its wally mart paint or something. I buy $30 a case at my local store for a box of HEAT, its not too bad. And if you decide to play more do I said earlier, rehyrdro your tank or something and play xD

Field Paint Reasoning
Here is the reasoning behind the rule that most fields will use. By a field requiring that a player use their paint only, they can prevent accidents, mistakes, injuries, etc. Some of these include, but are not limited to frozen paintballs, dozens of colrs which may lead to a bad call by a referee's confusion, old, cheap paint, etc. For those, and many other reasons, most paintball fields will be FPO (field paint only).
