Getting ready to play again

Well guys I am coming back to play after a 5 year or more break, thought i would sign up on here to look for info and help answer any questions i think up. I used to play with a Stingray 2 wich i did a custom paintjob on and ported the barrel a little (i am a machinist). I was playing one day, wich was the last time i played and some guy had this raptor ltd2000 which was not working and he was really ticked at it so i traded him my stingray for his raptor wich at the time was a decent gun. I took it home made a new sear out of tool steel and it worked fine. My little sister borrowed it and brought it back in non working condition, and it sat for a couple years like that. Now one of my firends has been buggin me to play with them so i am trying to get it all set up again.

The raptor had developed a problem with the blowback and also the velocity was inconsistant and low. So far i found wrong with it...
1 needed cleaned badly
2 valve body installed upside down
3 pin that holds valve body in was too long and hit the valve pin causing excess friction in valve
4 spacer missing on the bolt spring
5 pin that connected the bolt and striker incorrect (i machined a new one)

I think that is it, but now the balls seem to have horrid spin on them, they are all old and i think out of round so i am going to try some new balls and see if that helps. Also I have never seen a Raptor LTD 2000 before so i am wondering if i have an aftermarket barrel or not. All the other raptors i have seen have drilled ports and mine has a slot system on the end.

I will get a picture tomorrow so maybe someone can identify the barrel.

Any ideas on things to check or tips related to this gun would be appreciated.

Thanks for any input, Erik

SOunds like, if the velocity is extremely low, it might need a new main spring. A spyder spring will probably work, if not it could be clipped.

The paint is probably your problem, the porting system on barrels have very little to do with the flight of the ball. Run good paint in it and it will be fine.

The cup seal may blow on you, again thats a spyder part(if your a good machinist you cna probably get anything spyder to fit in that gun)

aS long as there aren't parts that can't be replaced(in your case MADE apparently ), the gun should still be fun to play with. Ypu might check the detent system btw, it may be dying.

Post a pic, I'lld like to see it.

Here is a picture of the gun and the barrel end. I do not know how barrels are measured exactly, it sticks 14" out of the gun. I will probly make a post in a different area more specific to the question later if i dont get any answers here.

Thanks, Erik
