The saftey issue for the kids is the most important point for buying a chrono, but it will also be easyer on the guns. Making sure they are shooting the paintballs at (or under) 300 feet per second is better for the guns anyway. Not to mention it will also give you less choping or breaking of paint in the barrel.
I'm still going to suggest the Tippmann A-5 or 98 for your self. You don't seem to be interested in the phantom. These are a lot more durable than a mechanical spyder. These are great mechanical markers.
If you are going to go electronic, don't get an old spyder. They are very very unreliable. usually not the boards and other electrical stuff (though this does happen) but it simply wears them out in a hurry (Expecially the older versions). You'll be haveing sear problems, o-ring problems, bolt problems (i've seen a couple electra bolts snap in half), or just plan old wear problems. I've seen this happen as early as 3 months into the marker being used. Apx 4 cases through them. Just do your self a favor and stay away from old electro spyders.
If you are going to go electronic Go with at least the new versions of spyders (the spyder VS1). These markers have been a lot better than their previous versions. Or an e-griped 98 or A-5 (Which is the way I would go).

I think I have decided to go with a mechanical gun. It is between a Spyder and the Tipman 98. The reason I am leaning towards a Spyder is that I have been told most of the parts are innerchangeable and I already bought 7 Spyders for the kids and I already had 2. So if it does break it will be easy to have a few spare parts.
The other reason I lean towards the Spyder is that I read that the Tippman 98C is real heavy.... is this true and is it really an issue.
Thanks again guys.

The 98c is indeed heavier and also longer. But the tippmanns are more reliable, the whole interchangeable parts thing is a moot point because tippmanns are so reliable that they will rarely need new parts (except for a detent replacement every once in a while). Don't get the impression that spyder's are unreliable because the definitely aren't, its just that the tippmanns are more reliable.

You might also look at the classic automag. It's going to be a superior gun to either...

you've never seen automags.org before? that's the Automag holy grail as far as B/S/T goes, though most of the decent posters migrated to pblegion a long time ago..

Why are you suggesting an automag? I hate it when people suggest dead guns. Yes automags where tanks (even better than tippmanns), but they are dead now. You can only buy them used and so on. I'm a fan of automags, but since the company shut down, I wouldn't recomend them to anyone who dosn't know what they are doing.
Since your so familiar to spyders you may as well stick with another MR-1. Though I personally think tippmann is a better gun(its not to heavy at all).

Well I went to my local paintball store and he recomended the Spyder Xtra. I really liked the way it looked and the parts are innerchangeable with the MR1 so I bought it. Any thoughts? Will this be a good gun? It looks like it will be. The barrel isnt very long. My old spider had a longer barrel. I remeber when I bought it 5 years ago the guy talked me into buying a longer better barrel for more accuracy. Should I take it off and put it on the new gun? Thanks.

it's a solid marker. if anything happens that you're confused about, run to our spyder section. longer does not = more accuracy, but if you liked the other barrel better, feel free to use it.

What makes the barrels better if longer doesnt help. Some of the barrles I seen were $ 50.00+.
Oh yeah I also bought a new helmet/goggles. I bought the Proto Axis. This thing is so comfortable compared to the crappy one I have from 5 years ago. Kind of alot of money but it was so comfortable.

the quality of them.
a lot of peopel believe that the bore size also helps. the idea is that you buy a barrel with sevral bore sizes, then matcht eh paint you use to fit it just right. I don't buy it and will never buy anything but a one piece barrel. J&J ceramics make wonderful barrels for around $30.

KAZ, you do know that there is still a HUGE mag community, and that AGD is still alive, kicking, and producing top quality markers.
The mag is so dead that it's seen 5 different custom bodies, and three new trigger frames come out in the last year? or that it has 3 different custom manufacturers producing products only for it, and Deadlywind chose to revive it's milling program for them?
Because it's not THE hot new marker does not make it dead...not by a LOOOOOOOOONG shot. Go over to AO and tell tom kaye there dead...
Yep, completely shut down, can only get them used btw....
