Hey everyone, i've never played paintball before but a lot of my friends play. I've been thinking about getting the 98c. Would that be a good choice? I dont know the first thing about paintball but I want to start playing it looks like a fun sport. Anyway, I dont know what a lot of the stuff means, like for example what exactly can you upgrade on the guns? And whats the difference between a paintball gun and an airsoft gun?

A 98 is a good choice for a first gun, if you're looking to play woods. If you're looking to play speedball, I would look at an Ion. If you're looking to play both, I would look into an ion.

Tippmann 98 Custom/Custom Pro Pros:

-The 98 Custom/Custom Pro is said to be more durable than the A-5 but to my knowledge there hasn't been any tests on it so that is unknown.
-The 98 Custom/Custom Pro can be centerfed, which means that you can have your hopper/loader right in the center of the top of your marker instead of off to the side, which reduces chops and allows faster feeding.
-The 98 Custom/Custom Pro can use electronic loaders where as the A-5 you only have two options at the moment, Q-Loader or the stock Cyclone unless the A-5 is custom modified to accept other loaders.
-The 98 Custom/Custom Pro also has an Anti-Chop bolt which has proven to be very effective against chopping paintballs that have been misfed or not fed fast enough into the marker.
-The 98 Custom/Custom Pro can also have a cyclone feed just like the A-5 and can use QEV's for it and the Vortex Mod
-Both the 98 Custom and Custom Pro are lighter than the A-5 (says Tippmann.com). The A-5 is 3.5 lbs, the Custom Pro is 3.1 lbs, and the 98 Custom is 2.9 lbs. These were all weighed without the tanks, and I'm not sure whether the hoppers/loaders had paint or not.
-The 98 Custom is 19.6 inches in length while the A-5 is 20 inches in length, but the Custom Pro is 22.1 inches in length (says Tippmann.com) however, the length can easily be changed based on the barrel length etc...
-If you can find an E-bolt (an Electro-Pneumatic Conversion kit that Tippmann used to make) than you can make your 98 Custom/Custom Pro electro-pneumatic which has less recoil etc...
-The 98 Custom/Custom Pro can accept 45 degree grips, where the A-5 doesn't have any grips for it, unless you modify it yourself to make it fit the grips.
Some info I read a while back.

98 customs are nice, they're usually a beginner gun for most of the people who started playing paintball that have never played before. They replaced a couple of parts with cheaper parts recently, but I forgot what they were. But it should still probably be able to take a lot and not break on you. Just make sure to clean it, which isn't super hard.
