Hi Kenny
I am thinking about a Tippmann 98 Custom. I have a friend who reccomends it. Any info on it?

The 98 is a woodsball marker. It's durable. It's been around since well 1998, and is very upgradeable.
The down side to it is that stock it's slow shooting and a little on the expensive side.
If you're looking to play senerios or common rec play then you can't go wrong with the 98. But if you want to play speedball and tournaments then the 98 is not the way to go.

Person above speaks the truth, if you want a good gun in the same price range is the SP Vibe(I believe it is in the 170-200 price range).

If you want woodsball strictly... recommend Smart parts SP-1, SP-8. Spyder MR1, MR2, MR3. Tippmann 98 custom, custom pro. All simple markers, relatively cheap and good for woods.
If not serious about it, Spyder VS markers, any of them.
If a bit more serious but don't have a huge budget look at Smart Parts, proto, Kingman Spyder RSX, Indian creek promasters, etc, etc etc.

ya im wondering what kind of team you are looking to be on? if its scenario, id recomend the sp1, beginning speedball vs1 or vs2
the 98 is a solid marker, i just dont think it will do well for a competition based play
at any rate, welcome

Most of the ball I will be playing will probably be woodsball with a little speedball thrown in. Most of the fields near me are woodsball. Thanks for the tips guys.

EXCELLENT POST! Wow, that was quite informative...
Still, the VS1 is a great little marker, it will serve you well

You haven't had a new one clearly.
I have to ask why though.... the VS1 doe snot break down anymore than the 98, is faster, and is more compact...

You are correct. I have not used a new spyder, but I still can't belive they are that much nicer than the old ones (which where junk for the most part).

Hey guys how is the spyder for shooting while having some dirt in or on it. I have heard the 98 shoots great dirty or clean? Forgive me for the question but the last time I owned a gun was 1989 and I think it was called a tiger. Oh how far we have come.

The co2/hpa will more then likely shoot the dirt outta the gun.

they're botht eh same. the spyder has more parts that dirt can get in, but unless you burry it in dirt or mud you won't notice a difference.
Ah the brass eagle tigershark. Still an excellent pump marker It's a shame the brass eagle quality dropped so much

Good point. Alrght well I'll get my hands on a VS marker and you can get your hands on a fusion. Sound good? Then maybe.. You'll stop hating on the fusion and I'll start suggesting a spyder over a tippmann Like that'll ever happen.
