Sp 1, good marker for newb?
I played a couple times paintball I tried woodballs/scenario and speedball. I'd really enjoyed woodball and I found a group of friends to play with, now that I am bored of using other's equipement I started to look for a marker that would suit myself. I've heard some guy talking about the sp 1, it looked good from what I saw. Would that gun suit a newbie? What kind of Hopper would you recommend, I was thinking also thinking in a 20 oz is that a good idea or is 12 better? Thanks a lot.

SP-1 is a great first marker! I would recommend getting a cheap steel compressed air tank instead of Co2 if you can afford the $50-60 for it due to it not being prone to freezing up on ya' on cold days or shooting downhill with Co2. The SP1 can be safely used with Co2 but it's better to get a anti-syphen (sp?) kit for it installed. By the time you do all of that you can get a cheap steel air tank (48/3000) for the same money. Check out some of the ebay stores for some good deals on tanks. I saw a starter setup with a SP1, 50/3000 tank, mask and a motorized hopper (plus pods, etc) for around $250ish. The prices and combos always change but there are some good deals out there unless you have a local pro-shop to go and get your equipment from. I always recommend getting stuff from a local store due to service after the sale, etc. Keep the money local to support your store near you and keep them open.
Good luck and have fun!
Let me know how you like it when you get it. I'm thinking about one myself. Just PM me or something...

I've checked the HPA on ebay and they sure are cheaper than in stores, haven't seen any start set with motorized hopper and they all have CO2 cans also most of them include a single lens mask, I was thinking into a double lens maybe, does it worth it? Also is the rhino ricochet hopper any good? Also how many shots do I get with a 48/3000 because I will only have one can.

Actionvillage will sell you self customized combos where you can get an HPA 48/3000 tank an a cheap eletric hopper like a 12v revolution. A 48/3000 tank will get you 400-500 shots, depending on the efficiency of the marker. Dunno how efficient the Sp1 is. Better to get a 68ci tank instead.

Unfortunatly for actionvillage I live in Canada so that would make everything expensive because of shipping and customs. I checked out Badlands Paintball Supplies Canada - Packages and I thought of maybe the package F, but I'm not sure of the upper, cause I can get the tank for 50-60 bucks from somewhere else and I guess that mask too, I'm not sure if the hopper's worth the rest.

Badlands is a great company to deal with I buy most of my stuff from them. That package isn't that great a deal the hopper is okay but it agitates constantly so it is loud and annoying the JT Specta mask is a great mask though. For an extra $50 you can get the same mask and tank and a Ricochet loader which is much better than the Extreme Rage model really any loader would be a better choice. Agitated hoppers are expensive but they are a must especially on electronic markers just be aware that you will always get what you pay for and if you buy a cheap hopper now you will just end up buying a new one later.

You nailed it there, buying combos is rarely a good deal because combos usually include crap. Better to buy individually. And yeah customs, i remember anything over $20 right? Check ebay.ca see what you can find there shipped from canada, but make sure you get a good hydro date if you're buying the hpa tank. If not the fst section of pbnation, there's a few canadians on there as well.
Tried this site too CanadianPaintball.com Smart Parts Markers?

The customs fees are just the sales tax you would pay if you bought from a store in Canada and a $5 charge from Canada Post. The real kick in the bag are brokerage charges if your stuff is sent by UPS,DHL, Fedex etc. you can end up paying the sales tax and an extra few hundred dollars on top of it. Badlands has free shipping on orders over $150 so that is a big plus Canadianpaintball.com is also a great place to buy from. I've found the best thing to do is exhaust all the Canadian sources first before ordering from the U.S having your stuff held up in customs for a month (yes it has happened) to save $20 just isn't worth it. If you want to look for used gear and are in the GTA/Barrie area check out Tdotballers.com the BST is like Canada's PBnation great deals as the agglets ditch last years stuff for half price to buy this years new model.

SP1 is not bad by any means, my thing against smart parts in the last few years is that it seems that they are coming out with better ways to sell over better ways to make a marker, for instance the sp1, they SAY it is capable of 15 bps, but what they acually mean is the softwear is capped at 15 the actual mechanincal side of it can manage 12-13 stock, you have to upgrade it to get it to shoot 15.
but that aside, from what iv seen it seems to hold its own, i would say just start out with co2 and if you wana upgrade to HPA (high pressure air) later you can, not to mention you will get more shots out of a 20 oz co2 tank (tank not can, just to help you out) than you will from that 47/3000 tank you were looking at.
but beyond the marker, get a good mask, cant stress that enoufgh, find one with a thermal lens (double lense are the best by far) so it wont fog on you, this is the best piece of equipment you can invest money in
as for the hopper, the ricochets are ok, ill always suggest a force feeder over an agitator though, as far as agitators go, in my opinion the halo TSA hoppers are the best agitators on the market, and a vl force would do good for a foce feeder
stock barrels are another thing that generally gets replaced rather soon, for the price the J&J ceramic barrels cant be beat ($30)
and i would recomend just putting together your own package, you get a lot better stuff that way instead of having to replace things
if your mind isnt set on the SP1 you may also want to look into the spyder VS1, definatly faster and has eyes so you dont need to worry about chopping

I agree with Trbo on the Halo TSA hoppers. There about $60 and they feed well. I have one and it keeps up fine with my Ion on semi so it should be fine with your SP1.

A great poet once said, "Ye who acteth retarded deserveth to experience ownage."
I usually stick my gun under their mask and ramp on their face for a few seconds to disorient them, then I proceed to tank whip them in the nuts repetitively until they pass out in the middle of the field so I can wear them on my back like a buffalo hide and sneak behind the rest of their team. lol

well heres the preoblem with running an agitator on a marker that doesnt have eyes, those agitators say they can feed like 15 bps, but theres no guaruntee on that, sure they CAN but because its not a force feed and they still relly on gravity to get the ball into the breach if something gets stopped up then you can easily chop a ball, i managed to chop with my pirahna e force with a tsa if i was really stringing the balls out there, every agitator will eventually feed a touch slower than it was a moment ago, with the ion its not a huge problem since it has eyes it wont fire unless the ball is all the way in there but if you have an agitator on a marker that doesnt have eyes you can easily chop a ball. so if you wana save a little money but are willing to deal with chopping a few here and there then go grab a tsa, otherwise theres not a huge price difference between the tsa and a basic force feeder than can keep up with the sp1

He is prolly going to do woods only play. SP1 is great for that. The ION is great too you just cant get that mil-sim look to it is all. The break beam eyes are nice though. However on a tight budget that $20 goes far with paint or a better air tank instead of Co2...

Finally I received it but unfortunatly it was missing the two bolts on the grip, where you put the battery. I contacted badlands, where I bought it hope they can fix this fast.

That is odd. I'm sure Smart Parts would send you out screws quick like either way. IF they used regular mail you would have them in less that a week and maybe faster if they use UPS or somthing.
Let me know how you like it when you get it up and running, what air system (Co2 or air) and other goodies you got.
Thanks and good luck, have fun!
