Older Paintballers

I'm considering getting back in to the sport but I always felt so old playing it! My question is... how many other 30+ players are out there?

There's quite a bit. A lot of big event woodsballers are between 25 and 35, so don't feel too old!

Hardest thing is getting a hold of the jargon and the new technologies, and facing that it's no longer a 3 or 4 choice world when it comes to equipment. Theres tens of choices now, different types and technologies, how it has progressed makes it a very interesting sport now.

So get in there, and enjoy the seniority.

38 here, just got back into it after 9 years of family

Youll enjoy it and the best thing is sense you are older your nerves are more dead than the younger crowd, so it wont hurt so much

Paintball does seem to be full of young guys I'm 27 and a good 80% of the time I'm the oldest guy on the field. At least I've got a good job and can afford paint and air all day and when I'm done playing I don't need my mom to pick me up.

Maybe the next time your mom picks you up she can bring a dictionary and you can work on your spelling on the way home. My advice is to start with the letter "C" and go from there.

I wasn't aware there was a hierarchy based on the year you sign up for the forum and I stand corrected. From this day forward I will not correct or disagree or even respond to anything posted by anyone that signed up for this forum before I did. Obviously they are far wiser than I am and know much that can not be revealed to me until an arbitrary number of months or maybe years have passed.

dark angel dont be so childish. You may have been on the forum longer than some people but that doesnt mean a thing. I have a guy on my team who has been playing for 15+ years and knows just about everything there is to know about paintball and has never used this forum, try thinking before you talk. As for the original question I have a forward player who is 39 and can keep up with the rest of my team ,we are all 22 or younger. Age is only a number.

Well, I'm pretty disappointed about how this thread's devolved. Guess I should have asked about maturation level, not age.

I did decide to take the plunge again. I purchased new gear and I'm dragging a bunch of my old fart friends with me to celebrate birthday 38 this weekend. Wish me luck!

cant' blame you netgeist. but it only takes one bad apple

I'm 22 and I feel like an old fart when I play speedball. I went to my first big game though and felt more at home; there's no snotty teens running around acting like teens do best.

Yeah Im 22 and when I was putting my speedball team together I said nobody under 18 to try and avoid some immaturity, not to mention dependence on parents. Good call to get back in, I always have fun and it gets you outside and with other people. Im sure you will have a blast.

Congradulations on getting back into paintball!! I wish you all the luck in the world, here is some tips(if you want them) on what I learned 2 weeks ago when i got back into the game:

1) First few games take just the hopper and maybe 1 pod out with you(unless your a sprinter in your day job). your joints will need some break in time. I went out with my mini and full hoppers right from the start, and ouch!!!! My legs hurt for 2 days, although my butt did take on a nice shape(my wife says so).

2) Pain sets in the muscles that you havent used, take some motrin before and after your day at the field. It wont help much, but at least you will feel like you are taking proactive measures.

3) Water, water, and more water. Something i wasnt accustomed to was drinking before playing. Hydrate well before you go play(a day in advance at least) Half of your local lake will be the standard intake until your body becomes adjusted again.

4) Try and stretch out some before playing to keep limber. No dancing stuff though, you dont want the others thinking your a bit light in the loafters(unless you are of course)

5) Find the guys with the speedball gear, and go on the other team. Get shot early to get through the adjustment period.

6) In reference to #5 dont say out until after the 6th hit(About 1/4 of a second at 34bps). You want to get the full effect on the first game.

7) Walk the field first(if possible) I found some poison ivy, a tick, 4 broken branches, a tree stump and my exwife(not the same as the previously listed tick). All are good obsticles to avoid.

8) Avoid distractions associated with everyone elses younger girl friends wearing biki tops or tank tops to the field, this can be done by bringing your wife. Its ok to get hungry but eat at home.

9) Off stops mosquitos(but not your ex wife/girlfriend/lover/lawyer), bring it!

10) If you cant avoid #8 then use #9 on the wife.

Most of all have fun and welcome back to the game. Woodsball hasnt changed much over the years and should rekindle your love for the game again. Not to mention your partner will appriciate the new look you will get even after a few weeks. I went from Homer Simpson to Kacey Kayne in a week(cept my wife is my corporate sponsor).
