Need a marker for non-game use - GEESE

I've read thru all the marker ratings, and getting started info. Unfortunately, it is focused (obviously) on playing paintball games. I have another use. We have a major goose problem on our lake and every spring the geese like to graze on our lawns and crap all over the place. Many times they have babies with them, who will return next year. The local lake association recommended harrassing them with paintball guns. They do not hurt the geese, but annoy them and make them look elsewhere for their feed and fun. I don't want to hurt them or kill them, especially the pairs with young. But their droppings make a mess and I need them to go away. Plus our dog likes to eat their turds. I need to talk to him about that disgusting habit.
I don't need the latest and greatest paintball gun, but I do need an accurate and reliable one. I played paintball 30 years ago when it first started. I remember the hot guns as the sport got more players were the pump guns. Something like that would be fine. Does anyone have an old pump gun for sale cheap? This thing will probably spend most of its life in my closet. But it will be charged and ready for the next family of geese that decide to squat on my lawn. I don't need state of the art or full auto fire. I need accuracy and reliability for a dirt cheap price. I've been a competitive shooter for at least 40 years. Your old obsolete paintball gun might just be my version of a Sharps long range rifle.
Thanks,
Rob

Well for one, some of the really old classic paintball guns are worth quite a bit more now, so the oldest thing in the closet might not be the cheapest

Secondly, you can get a very nicely priced mechanical Spyder for close to nothing.

For a barrel, and since you don't really intend to play, I'd still reccomend the J&J Ceramic. Accurate, self cleans for those few messy chops, and under $50, you really can't beat their quality.

And just a heads up if you don't already know, paintball guns aren't usually aimed the same way as a firearm, you kinda look down the side of the barrel ,since the hopper gets in the way, unless you want to forget the hopper, take the feedneck off, and just go one shot one kill style

Best of luck with your seemingly annoying and nasty problem!

got an old stingray in my sig for 25, works pretty well...

Normally, I would say harassing animals w/ paintball guns is a terrible idea...but geese suck...so I can understand.

Actually I'd take jester up on the stingray. Those are some tough old guns, and for 25$ i'd take it over one the crummy VL STBB guns..

and if you get bored, you can go play an oldschool game of pump

I agree about harassing animals. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. That stingray for $25, does that include a tank and hopper?

Surprised to hear that old paintball guns are becoming collectible. But then again nothing surprises me after the great Beanie Baby episode.

Appreciate all the input. I found this forum because there were a bunch of Brass Eagles for sale on Craig's list. Prices were right. Googled Brass Eagle and found more negatives than expected. Hard to believe someone can put something like that on the market and people still buy them.

Thanks for the input.

The stingrays and tigersharks here much maligned, but are in reality very dependable little markers, as long as they are the black polymer. Now the clear ones are junk period....

People also bag on the rainmaker, but for the first gen electro, don't bag to hard, the thing can still do close to fifteen.....

I'm not sure shooting birds with a paintball marker is a good idea, could potentially injure them or kill them, unless you shoot at very low fps... but yeah, jester's stingray will do the job, any old tippmann or spyder will also do the job.

Geese are a big problem, they're turds i forgot do something bad to the lawn and water. And I remember someone I know shooting one with a break barrel pellet gun and it did no harm.

I can imagine the only damage might be a welt or knock out if its in the head. Because I remember when I was a kid I threw rocks and those big clumps of dirt at them.

Our lake association, which is very sensitive to things like this is what recommended the paintball gun. I would not use a BB or Pellet gun because a bad shot could severely injure a goose. Plus I'll be shooting from a distance because you cannot get close to them when they have young. I could even skip a ball off the ground and hit them which would be even safer. Would never shoot the chicks. I actually enjoy seeing those families swimming around the lake. But they crap bigger than my dog.
I might go to Wally World and get a bag of paint balls and bring my slingshot up. Not sure how the paint balls will work. Might have to buy better ones because I hear the cheap ones break easily.

I know i was just saying how strong they are. But yeah, Wally World does have cheap paint, but it depends on what gun a velocity really. You can get a box of 1000 Big Ball for 20-30 bucks, those arent bad, never had a break using them in my gun.

If you want paint that doesnt break on contanct, than monsterball is what you're looking for. Severely cheap, and breaks on almost nothing.

Very bad paint though, never use it for anything serious.

Hmmm, haven't though about that. Agreed though. I guess it wouldn't injure much because of how soft they are.

It comes with a 9oz CO2, but I dont have a hopper I'm afraid. VL shake-n-bake loaders are pretty easy to find and usually only cost about 5$
