It's all so confusing!
All,
I am relatively new to paintball as you would expect since I'm posting in the "New player forum", and I hoping to get some advice. I am in the market for a marker and had decided to go with the new 08 Electra. Subsequently, I read a few disparaging remarks about spyders in general and began looking at the Ion. However, I was still reading posts from people who apparently like their spyders, so now I am leaning Spyder again. I've also been looking at the VS2.
Anyone have some well founded opinions on these products in terms of their quality and durability. Am I overlooking any other viable options in that price range? ~$200.
Thanks everybody!

The 08 electra and the VS2 blow the Ion away. Which one to get is a good question though. I'd say VS2 because it has the balance valve system that basically eliminates the kick of a blowback marker.

VS2 would be a great choice, even if the Electra come swith the Tadao chip
The G3 Balance-Valve is bringing the traditionaly blowback style marker to tournament performance. It's really quite something.

Yeah, really does revolutionize blowbacks. VS2 shoots as good as most any other mid range marker out.

I was surprised at the difference in the LP valves in the VS series, even compared to traditional LP mod spyders.
If kingman will just put a good reg on them, maybe go into partnership with palmer or something to get regs or the designs to them, they run on CO2 just fine...

Honestly a lot of the trash talk is just from brand loyalty both Spyders and Ions are seen as "newbie" markers because of their low price and lack of features seen on high end markers. In the end either one will get you playing and both are more than fast enough to help level the playing field against the big dollar markers. I've never liked the feel of Ions or Spyders but I've been playing a long time and I still manage to get shot out by them often enough so buy whichever one you like and don't worry about what other people say about your gear.

Any other manufacturers that I should be considering in that price range? Also, I will be using HPA. Is the electra or the VS2 better suited for one or the other? Also, what decently proced hoppers are actually decent for this particular application? Thanks again everybody.

Sp1 or Proto SLG. The Proto is slightly more money but an amazing marker for the price.

Get a VS2, VL eye force hopper, and a V-force profiler mask and you will be set with your gun and it's accessories. I'd suggest picking up a set of paintball pants as well so you won't have ot worry about messing up any jeans, plus they slide A LOT better then regular pants.

I personally like both Spyder and SmartParts
I own both a modded Spyder Imagine and an upgraded SmartParts EOS.
With that being said, for the money, the VS2 really can't be beat. If the IonXE goes down to the VS2 price, then there will be some serious competition, but until than, the VS2 is still numero uno
