Ions were the first major electropneumatic marker that was within the budget of most starting players. So they became INCREDIBLY popular. With the correct upgrades, it's better than any spyder, and can hang with most higher mid-end guns. So it's a good platform you can start with, and improve. And Smart Parts absolutely FLOODED the market with them. For a while, every tournament would have ONE of it's prizes be Ions. Local tournies would often have Ions as the 2nd and 3rd place prizes. So they're quite common. And nothing really WRONG with them if they're taken proper care of and you learn how to maintain them instead of just tearing into it. Although no longer the undisputed ruler of the value segment since there are low pressure spyders, PMR, SLG, and other markers every bit as good around the same price now, often with better stock accessories (on/off, clamping neck, etc.).
