I've been looking for a paintball gun for a long time, and i cant help but notice the similarities between the Tippman 98 and the BT-4. A lot of upgrades, particularly barrels, say that they fit the Tippman 98/BT-4. I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to tell me differences/similarities between these two guns. When the Tippmann family sold their paintball business to an investment firm Ben Tippmann (where the BT comes from) was a bit miffed and decided to start his own company. As far as the basic upgrades go the BT4 is a 98C that will take A5 barrels and 98C stocks. The finish on the BT is better and the marker is made from milled aluminum rather than stamped metal the feedneck can be moved for easy cleaning and it has a adjustable/removable fore grip, and removable sights. Internally they are the same but the few extra features and a much nicer build quality makes the BT the better choice in my opinion. Also the stock barrel on the BT doesn't completely suck so that's a plus.

They used to be more durable. In 2004 Tippman began to outsource everything and allowed the use of lower grade metal. the products made since then have all sorts of issues with the sear wearing down.
I've heard that the BT brand still uses high quality materials; if you're buying new, and had the choice, I'd take a BT over a tippman any day for this reason.
The BT4 takes the same upgrades as Tippmanns while at the same time being better made and cheaper so how exactly is the Tippmann better?

Sorry to hear about the .3 but if you had a better marker it wouldn't shoot fractions of paintballs.

I still don't know about that 31.3 bps. I know for sure that on semi its capped at 20 bps/max(not that you can get there).
But at last a ion is still a ion, no matter what you do to it.
ionbeast - give up and save some dignity while you can, plastering your marker and constantly listing the ups may get you somewhere over on PBN but here it is just seen as imature. if you knew anything about paintball you would know that anything above 15 bps does not matter, and is only good for bonus balling people. not to mention we had the whole discussion about your marker in the rate my marker section, and if im not mistaken, crawdaddy has probably layed down more cash for anyone of his markers than you have on that ion
do you even know what PPS stands for?

well you may not be a "tippman fanboy" but you are obviously an Ion fanboy...or would that be a CP and the various other brands of which you replaced everything on your ion with...lol either way your a fan boy 1 or all of them.

LOL! if you knew an ounce of what you were talking about you would clearly know that bps means nothing as to the quality of your gun. And if anything, it just means you are SO BAD at paintball, that you need 30+ balls a second to hit some one lol (good old spray and pray). Since bps seems to mean so much to you I would love to play you with a pump, you can bring your supposed 14 trillion bps out on the field, ill bring a pump...nothing would be better than to 1 ball you with a pump. AND I WOULD NEVER BE JEALOUS OF AN ION.
