My first.....?
They guys, thanks to the help from the nice people of this site, I think I've decided on what my first setup is going to be. 2012 spyder fenix. Invert helix thermal. And a tippmann ssl2000 hopper. Ony question left is should I get a 12oz or a 20oz co2 tank. Since the spyder fenix supposedly gets 1600 plus shots with the 20oz co2. Should it get about 1000 from a 12oz? Or should I just buy a 20oz? Thanks for all the help guys it really means a lot

go for a 20oz
also, id suggest either the evolution 4 or the eye force over the tippmann hopper

holy crap, for $70 ish bucks. you might as well get a too for that.
i suggested the evo and eye force because they were around the same price as the tippmann

Is the tippmann hopper really that bad? I doubt I will really ever shoot more than about 10bps because I do not want to waste paint. Will it at least get the job done? I can get the ssl at my local sporting good store so it is more easily available to me compared to the viewloader which I would have I buy offline. Also the ssl is only 40$ at the store while te viewloader is 50$ plus shipping.

i wouldnt say its terrible but theres really not a whole lot about it thats good either. it is based on the old ricochet series and does not keep constant tension on the ball stack like a good forcefeeder should. they changed around the shell a little because the old ricochets were agitators and not force feeders. while the tippmann is technically a force feeder, its a lot like putting a windshield and a horn on a go cart just so you can call it a "car" its reaction times are very slow. personally id rather get a proto primo over a tippmann hopper of any kind
if anything should happen to the tippmann parts are going to be extremely hard to find to fix it.
i suggest spending the extra $10 and getting the evolution. it will keep tension on the ball stack, is much better on batteries (chances are in the course of a year or two depending on how much you play you will probably save more than $10 on batteries alone) has a much better reaction time due to the use of eyes over the stupid touch flap thing that the tippmanns use and parts while not everywhere, are much easier to come by for the evolution over the tippmann

So would you recommend the viewloader eyeforce revolution over the tippmann? I really don't like the "eggy" look of the evolution. Where can I purchase
The viewloader eyeforce?

Bah, nothing wrong with the reaction time of the bend sensor. The only thing that makes the Tippmann suck is that it's the 9V version, which means it's BARELY faster than a Primo while barely saving you money over the 18V version of the Fasta which is far superior.

Why not get a used Halo Too or Prophecy? Those IMO are far superior than anything that has been listed on here so far, and they should only be around $40-50...

i disagree, the way those sensors work is if a ball is resting on the flap thingy, that ball has to fall past it and then the next one has to push it back in for the hopper so sense anything is going on. if those hoppers kept tension on the ball stack then i agree it would not be a bad design but they do not. basically it is a gravity hopper until the second ball reminds the hopper that it is not.

i agree with these ideas. both are fantastic hoppers that have parts readily available.

There's a reason the design is the single oldest design for how to feed and still being used. I'd take it over eyes ANY day. Far more reliable. I prefer sound activation to it, but the bend sensors are far superior to eyes.

I used a Ricochet from the day they hit the market to just last winter when it finally died and that is a LONG time. The only time I had a problem is when I tried to shoot really fast with the loader very sharply tilted. Forcefeed jams a ball into the breach but agitated still needs a bit of a help from gravity.

just because its old does not mean its good
how long has tippmann been using the clamshell?
i will agree that it is a reliable system but again, without tension on the ball stack the hopper has no idea what is going on until the second ball hits the sensor.
hell a properly working touchforce will react faster since it only needs the first ball to come off of the sensor (granted the issue with those is getting the switch installed in just the right spot)
