Hi,
I am very new to paintball and am looking for some beginner gear. I have heard different kinds of games like woodball but what are these? Also what are the different kinds of hoppers and tanks ect.

woodsball is just paintball in the woods, speedball/hyperball/Xball are really just all a form of paintball played on a much smaller course than your typical woodsball field.

in reality though paintball is paintball, dont believe people when they say you need different gear for "woodsball" or "speedball" paintball equipment is paintball equipment and it will preform the same no matter where it is

I'm new also, and was having difficulty seeing what the differences would be. Maybe it's just my awesome amateurism, but about the only thing I could think of is camo clothes for woodsball, where stealth could win the game.

Truth is - the best camo you can produce for woodsy operation is.....learning to stand still.


The range of a paintball marker is about 100 feet-ish..or 1/3 football field. The human eye is attracted to movement - easily proven just by driving down the street in a car. If someone is only 30-50 yards away - no matter how much green/brown/olive you're wearing..they'll see you move - but if you're standing mostly still, probably behind some form of cover...in bright pink/purple/teal.. you're less likely to be seen.

If dressing up like GI Joe makes your berries jolly...do it.
If wearing matching jersey&pants helps you feel confident...do it.
Or if a sweatshirt and jeans is more your thing? I won't be one to stop you.


I will say though - I've played in CQB/Woods matches just as effectively with my halo gun and black/purple/blue gear....let alone my black/red gear.. as my buddy who wears full BDU w/ a green/camo spyder and tank cover.

Plus, there really isn't any "stealth" tactics in paintball. Once you fire your marker, everyone can hear you.

yup, i used to play with a bright red impulse and bright red hopper, i did not get found unless I was moving. The only time camo is an advantage is when you are trying to get very close to the other team without being seen (like under 40 feet) to either get by them or something else but realistically you are shooting at each other long before you get that close anyway.

Here is another great example of why colors are over-rated. back during the same time i was playing with that impulse we used to play in some back woods. One day we found an old kids slide about 30feet off of one of the paths we had been walking down all the time. It was one of those plastic cube things that had fairly bright colors. They were somewhat faded and had a little dirt on it but still they were colors that you would not find at all in the woods and yet we had been playing there for about 3 months every other weekend and that was the first time we noticed it
