The sport of paintball started from the use of the "markers" to mark cows on cattle farms. Or could also have started from lumberjacks using the "markers" to mark the trees that need to be cut. Apparently they started shooting at each other ?
paintball is a marker (not gun) that shoots gelatin balls filled with paint at the safe speed of around 280 fps. The object of the game it to "mark" the other person with the paintball using you marker. Much like tag but with paint,pain, and things that shoot the paintballs (notice how i avoid the word "gun")
Now that you know the history lets get down to the basics:
say you and your friends plan on going paintballing for a b-day etc etc
i suggest that u read the following text so that u dont look like the noobs that i hate when i go paintballing
-Always, and i mean ALWAYS keep your mask on. When on the field ALWAYS KEEP YOUR MASK ON !!!! I dont care if u get bonus balled 50 times just keep your cool and keep it on. If there is a problem with your mask, liek a bug or a cracked lense or if u are hurt just get on the ground cover your face and call for a ref. If needed he/she will stop the game and get u off the field. NO SKIING/SAFETY/MOTOCROSS/etc etc goggles, PAINTBALL MASK ONLY !!!! IF NOT FOLLOWED YOU COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED
-Always keep your barrel plug in ! When Not on the field keep your plug in. This is just for saftey, i also suggest u dont shoot with ur plug in either. It may shoot the plug out and hit someone, this may also damage your gun. Even if u have a barrel condom dont shoot because it may go thru (that has happned to me) So once again when not playing keep your barrel plug IN !!!!
-When hit, simply put your barrel plug in and raise your gun, if need yell DEAD MAN, or LET ME OUT, OR HIT.. just say something along hte lines of that. Remember to keep you mask on, do not take it off until off the Field. When walking out and u keep on getting hit do not get mad and start shooting back at them, this is against the rules and people will get mad at you. just remeber it was your choose to play and that getting hit is part of the game.
-Always chrono your gun. Even if u are using a rental. Chronoing your gun will determine the velocity your gun is shooting at. Make sure it is under 300 fps (feet per second) the fps may vary at different feild but i assure u that no matter where u are they want it under 300 fps. Dont be a smart ass and crank up your velocity on the field this may damage your marker and can hurt people. and that is some paintball DOES NOT NEED !!!! Dont try to be smart and skip chronoing becuz if u shoot someone and ur gun is hot u can be kicked off the field and the person may be hurt. I was at SC Village one day and when playing someone shot a person in the hopper at it when thru it, as in in one end and out the other, i was told it pretty much shattered. the person was shooting at like 500 fps and was banned from the field. If u dont want someone else shooting hot, u should return the favor and chrono your gun correctly. If someone hits you and ur welt is bleeding or a very big/unusually paintball bruise report it to a ref, point out the person and ask the ref to rechrono the persons gun. If overly hot (hot=fps well aboce limit) the ref should punish him
-If you mark someone at they are out, plz i beg u, plz dont overshoot them. I mean like as they get off and start walking off the field u just keep shooting at them just to "make sure" The most shots needed (unless in speedball
) is like 2-4 shots, that is enuff, dont shoot em 20 times just becus. it is very mean and the person could get hurt. Other players may get mad at you and u could be punished by breaking the rules. If it is an accident simply state that u didnt mean to and u want to apologize, that the best you can do. So once again if u dont want someone to overshoot you, dont overshoot them. If someone overshoots you, report it to a ref, they should take care of the problem
-Dont try to be cool and "freeze" paintballs. This is very dangerous and could hurt people. This could also break your marker and get u banned from fields. Paintball isnt about making the others feel pain, dont say "oh yea this is gunna be so fun, my gun is gunna hurt them so much !" thats just evil, you are trying to push this great sport forward not back ! This paragraph also counts for marbles, bouncy balls etc etc. plz dont use anything stupid, its just common sense, stick with paintballs
-When removing c02 half wayy thru some air might flash out. do not be frightened simpy keep turning and the c02 will come off. dont drop your gun and scream, because there goes a whole c02 tanks, and the embarrasment of looking like a uber noob/pansy
DO NOT PLAY ANYWHERE UNLESS AT A PAINTBALL FIELD !!!
some eastcoasters may play in the woods outside of town that is ok as long as u are away from people and remember to be safe. If playing in the woods with like your friends follow the safety rules and make sure there are like no bike trails and such. stay away from where people roam (as in dont play near houses or in the streets etc etc)
Do not SHOOT ANIMALS !!!! if u do that i will personally go find u and strangle u to death !!! It is plain mean and cruelty to animals is against the law !!! This Would also be reported and could ruin on lovely sport and worsen its reputation, and could get paintball banned in ur state/city tho i doubt that would happen just DONT !!!!!

Paintball Tips !!!!!!!
tip #1- Dont be afraid of paintballs. they are 30 seconds of pain
you will be called a sissy !
#2- dont hide in the back and say you are a "sniper"
this simply shows you are afraid to be upfronnt HELPING the team because your intimidated
#3- Dont be intimidated by flashy guns or jerseys. if they call u a noob dont run away crying.
#4- Follow the basics in the text above, they will help you not look like a noob and become a good begginer player !
#5- Longer barrels dont make it more accurate or a sniper gun. They acctually slow the velocity , impare movement, and are just gay
i reccomend u stick to barrels below 14 inches
#6- If u have a good gun,or something bttr than another dont say "AHAHAH u SUCK !!! look at my TIMMY AND U HAVE A SPYDER HAHAHAHA ID WHOOP YO A**, becuz that makes u a jerk and a newb, and proves that u think the gun makes the player, whereas i know many spyder people that could whoop people no matter wut gun
