Yes, you can. Even up to 3000psi. The guy i watched do it, he only got his tank up to 1500psi before he was too tired. Yes you can fill it up all the way, it just takes a sh1t load of pumps.

if you're playing somewhere that doesn't have free air, a scuba tank is definately a worthwhile investment. filling is a little intimidating at first, but after you do it a few times it's no biggie.

It wouldn't work unless one was specially modified to handle the pressure. First of all the fittings and seals aren't rated to handle nearly that much pressure plus you had better have a super small pump chamber. Typical tire inflators might have an average of a inch in diameter meaning you would need to press down on the pump handle with 3500 lbs of force. Either Levers or a smaller pump cylinder will reduce the amount of force needed at the expense of additional repetitions.

1500 Pounds per square inch. You'd need to be HELLUVA strong to push that. An elephant could do it. But a human.. I don't think so. Maybe he had a broken gauge?
With an air compressor, what your doing is pumping the air into a resovoir until the pump doesn't have enough horsepower to put anymore air into the resovoir. Usually about 200 pounds per square inch.
If you went to refill your HPA with the air in the resovoir a second time, nothing would happen. Both the resovoir and the HPA tank are now at 200PSI. So you' lose a bit of air from the resovoir and the HPA tank and you'd fill up the hose that your filling the tank with to 200 PSI.
Get a SCUBA, ask the proshop to show you how to use it, then use it. But be careful.

Maybe he did have a broken guage. But it sure the hell worked because he screwed it back on his gun and played a few more games with it.

When you thin kabout it, the piston would have to be like .5 cubic inches thick if you want to get even one or two shots off.

He got a atleast a hundred off. I'm not joking about it either. Maybe next time he comes to the field he video tape it for you guys. After thinking about, you guys are probably right about getting to 3000psi. But i have seen an air tank filled with an air pump and then used and it worked.

Scuba tanks are very easy to get fills off of.
All you have to do is hook-up the fill station, so that means screw it on to the top of the scuba tank. Then you hook up your hpa tank to the fill station. Close the pressure release valve and then fill up your tank. Open release valve and then tank your tank off. That easy.
Remember scuba tanks can only hold up to 3000psi so you really don't have to worry about over filling your tank.
It's not gonna blow up on you either. If it did, you deserved it.

Hmm. My friend's dad is a carpenttor and his uncle is an auto mechanic so they have a compressor. I wonder if it would be strong enough. Im going to check the psi rating on it. If not I can get a used scuba for around $80 right?

It's not going to work. Typical air compressors only go up to 200psi. Air tools don't need more then that. (Or even that much)
It might be possible to modify or make a marker shoot at 100PSI but you would need a HUGE tank in order to get a lot of rounds out before dropping below 100psi from 200. I'm pretty sure lower pressures are much less efficient anyways. Put a good matched paintball into a barrel and blow lightly for a long time. The ball won't even move since the air escapes around it. Now give it a quick hard burst of air and it'll fly out. You used much less air with the burst since there wasn't enough time for air to leak around the ball. I *think* this works the same way at much higher pressures.... 850 hits the ball faster so that there is less leak then 400psi. Another factor is how much potential energy a set amount of gas has..... 5ml at 850psi or 5ml at 300 ? You use the same amount of gas but can do more work with 850. Wow I'm really rambling off topic now.
