Yes, there WAS a ban on force-feeds up until 2000.
Before that, plenty of guns were capable of firing 20bps, BUT NONE COULD becuse you were physically limited to 13bps, so nobody really cared.
With agitators, 13bps is the "wall" that you can't pass. And 13bps was the "max" rate. The "average sustained" feed rate for revos, was 10-11bps.
10bps is a pretty friggen nice equalizer.
It had THE EXACT same effect as limiting intakes on NASCAR, or limiting gear rations on NHRA. WIthout these limits, you have something like the infamous "Can-Am" racing series of the 1970s.
Anyone old enough to remember the Can-Am racers? No limits at all! What a total mess!
Will we ever go back to the force-feed ban? Not unless there is a serious accident. The problem is that companies like to charge a PREMIUM for a 20bps gun. If there is 10bps limit, the demand for a $1500 super-gun is severely diminished.
SO, there is obviously alot of industry pressure supporting the force-feed hoppers. In fact, it was pressure from Tom Kaye himself that had the ban removed. (The main reason being his mags work TERRIBLE on agitators).
So, while it would improve the tournament scene about 100%, I don't forsee it happening. But if it did, we could allow any mode, and not really worry about it.
