Just bought my first marker, now what?
OK. Played indoor pump pistol three times, played outdoor once, result = totally hooked.
I went to the Wisconsin State Fair and a local paintball vendor was set up. He was demonstrating the "Tippmann Custom 98" models. He purports that they are all brand new models (I believe him, they look new) and that he will be selling them after the fair for $100 including the CO2 tank, hopper, and presumably a plug. I'm going to buy one as these forums and the internet suggest that these are good entry level models.
My question is I know they're upgradeable. What would I buy (particularly, what kind of barrel) to compete in semi-automatic games?

I mean I've only done outdoor paintball or rather semi-auto games once. So, I'm told these Custom 98 models are entry-level for guys like me.
I thought that the option to "improve" the marker with a different barrel would be a good idea.

for the 98 custom i would get a barrel, something like a smart parts teardrop or progressive, and alot of people seem to like j&j'also . A double trigger would be a good thing to get, along with a good sized drop forward, and a e- hopper. With all that you will have yourself a very nice gun.

Yea, the very first thing your going to want to upgrade would be the barrel. I would probably go with a boomstick.

eh get a J&J 14in if u bust a ball u can shoot right through it and after 2 or 3 shots its back to near normal when i played w/ a teardrop as in a couple times when a ball busted the paint would just go in every doff direction but thats y u have a squgee
also u want a semi auto gun not an auto u cant play some places w/ those your best bet would to get a resonce trigger or an Ebolt<---- pretty penny to pay though and most of all just enjoy paintballing

doont buy a barrel that costs more than your gun did. j&j, progressives, or teardrops are good cheap barrels. or a cp 1 piece. and your going to need a mask.

i recommend a jnj ceramic
14 inch
good accurate barrels that can shoot through breaks
Hopper
Empire reloader (the one that loosk like a revy)
Revolution w/ xboard
both are pretty much the same thing amd same price but i say the empire cuz its sound activated
Mask
jt proflex
thermal medium priced and very cool
if u can dish out some money i say profiler (80$)
i the game is all bout the mask and u might as well buy the best ....

since your just starting out you dont need to go all out with upgrades, your marker will be fine stock. When you feel its time to improve your marker the most important upgrades will be a barrel(smart parts progressive or teardrop are good), double trigger(your preferance), and an electric hopper(empire reloader or 12v revolution are fine). also you can do some internal mods to lighten and shorten the trigger pull for free.

Do not buy a boomstick, they are too heavy and too expensive. Get SP teardrop.

i dont know about heavy,but yes,expensive
just get a j&j,and since it comes with co2 tank and probobly a regular hopper, and a mask, your ready to play
to antifog a regular mask for the say,use a soapbar with antifog spray and rub in around with a rag on both sides of lense- i know it sounds wierd, but hey it works
EDIT-
and beg for 20 dollars from someone to get a case of paint
-or pimp yourself

HA! I dont think this guys wants to dish over $100.00 for a barrel that costs more than his gun. Just go with an All American or TearDrop barrel made by Smart Parts. you can get them in a variety of colors and sizes. You prolly want to get a 12".
Another thing that should be upgraded after the barrel is an Electronic Hopper. Not only will the hopperlast longer than the krappy plastic gravity fed hoppers. It will reduce and most liekly stop chopping when shooting a bt faster. I'm positive that a 98C cant outshoot a revvy - but I would pick that up next.
After those two your pretty much set fro anything else youd like to add. Drop Forwards, Triggers, Regs and such. Just remember that when you upgrade your tippy it's not increasing the value. If you decide to sell it in ayear with ALL those upgrades your probably only going to get $150.00 for it just because when upgrades are purchased you lose like 80% of the value.... Trust me everyone on this forum knows that.
Anyways good luck with everything and have fun ballin!

Nice choice on a first gun. Here is what I would do to make it the best it can be.
For the first thing I would get a CP 1 piece. Very good barrels. Some of the best made and with a great price. I've seen them go for 25 dollars from the store. Great deal when you are talking about a top of the line barrel. For size, I would reccomend 12 inch with a .691 bore. Most paint is .689 bore so a .691 will fit it through pretty accuratly. Some paint likes to expand when it gets hot or wet. So play it safe.
After that I would get a Veiwloader 12 volt revolution electronic hopper. This will feed as fast as you can shoot your gun and will eliminate most ball breaks. They can be found for 45 dollars new or you can get great deals on used ones. The Empire ReLoader is pretty much the same thing only sound activated. Meaning it spins every time you shoot. Either one is fine.
Then I would get a HPA tank. Size is up to you as long is it is not a 47/3k steel tank. HPA will make you shoot more consistantly. Better accuracy in some cases and will keep you velocity pretty well where you set it. I reccomend crossfire air systems. A preset tank is fine. I don't reccomend adjustable tanks.
The last thing I would get is a Verticle adaptor and a Regulator. A reg helps keep you consistant. It regulates the airflow into your gun. You'll need a verticle adaptor to mount a regulator onto your gun. I'd reccomend a Palmer's Stabalizer reg or a Bob Long torpedo. Good products.
After that it is all up to you. You might want to put other things on there. Ther are a lot of things you can do but those are the first few things I would get. Who knows, maybe by the time you get all of those things you might want a new gun. It's up to you.
