Newbie Thread

Now I am making a thread that has EVERYTHING a newbie needs to know about paintball so this will take me a while to make. This will also help there be not much question threads.

Good First Gun -

Now a good gun thats aimed mostly for beginners would be the cheap Spyders. Now any new person into the sport can buy a Spyder Victor and use it for his/her own learning experience. When they great a little bit advanced they can upgrade it to a good intermediate and even an advanced gun. Now it mostly depends on where you will be playing and your budget. Now paintball is an expensive sport so it's good to have some cash before getting a gun.

Woodsball -

Now if your going to be playing in the woods mostly then look into a Tippmann. They have a nice black finish paint job which is great for nighttime and they are good guns. They can complety strip down with no tools in under 60 seconds. Now these guns are a bit pricey and their upgrades and expensive too. Spyder's are good for woodsball too, not just Tippmanns.

Speedball -

Now if your going to be playing like on a feild then a Spyder is a great choice. I own a Spyder myself and I has gotten to know them very well. Their performance is at a top notch and very little maintence. These guns are too expensive and their good for starters and even advanced. The upgrades are useally around $40 which shouldn't be a problem. Highly recommended Tippmann's are also ok with speedball but not that great.

Upgrades -

Now if your wanting some cool upgrades then theres some good stuff you can choose from. Well most people upgrade their stock barrel because the gun company is not specialized at making barrels therefore your gun will be loud and it is recommended that yuou upgrade it to a better and longer barrel with more porting to reduce the sound and improve your accuracy. Next you should upgrade your bolt, this could be the cause that your chopping paint. They have special bolts that cup the paintballs and imporove your air flow. Now an electric hopper would be a good choice too. If you out-shoot your paintball gun then you might get a paintball jam, so get an electric hopper and it will feed the paintballs into your gun around 8-12 bps.

Barrels -

Now don't think if you get a 21" barrel you can shoot the farthest and "snipe" anyone within a miles range. No go for a 12" or a 14" barrel. Anything after 14" will lose range. The longer that barrel the more accuracy you will get. So I recommend getting a 14".

Price Range -

Now the price ranges a lot between online and stores. Well before I got a Spyder Imagine it was $180 at the store and $120 online. So it is cheaper to buy it online but if it has any problems and your local store does not carry the gun then your going to have some problems. Anyways the AVERAGE price range for a painball gun is from $120 to $250 for a good gun. But they always are different.

Tanks -

Now since you just got your first gun you will need a tank to shoot anything. If it's cold where you play then CO-2 will freeze and give you less shots. So you really should get a compressed air tanks and they are expensive. The cheapest you could probably get is around $80. But if it's not cold by where you play then you can just get a $20 CO-2 tank which is good for 300-700 shots.

Maintence -

Now there's something you gotta know about a paintball jam. When it occurs do this. Put your safety switch on and remove the barrel. Clean out your barrel with a squggie and and take it off. Look into where your barrel was and you might see the paintball jam. Try to get it out by shooting or useing a squggie. If all goes well know safety switch off and screw in barrel.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Does it hurt when you get shot with a paintball gun?

Now the first couple of times it will sting and burn for about 30 secs and it will leave a bruise. But after a while you will get used to it and it will be like nothing to you. The closer your shot the more pain, so don't get shot up close.

I heard my tank can blow up?

Well that all depends on the area it was in. If it was in a hot area then you should leave it in the shade for a while untill it cools down. Now if it was in a cold area then put it in your room which should be room temperature. These tanks can blow up causeing death and serious injury to many. So handle them with care. Don't bang them up and throw them around. You also will get frost bite burns due to the rushing cold air.

How can I become a sniper?

Well theres some things you can do to improve your accuracy so you can aim well. First get a 14" barrel and possibably a sight rail depending on the type of gun you have. If you have a tippmann then buy a sniper kit where is very accurate for the 98 Custom.

Is any of this illegal?

Well your actually not allowed to play paintball in a city unless its an offical field. Now many people including myself do it anyways. If the cops do come by then make sure you have a mask and your not pointing your gun around the place. Well should just check and see what your doing but they very very rarely ever take your gun away unless you are shooting cars, houses, animals, etc etc.

What's the best paintball gun?

There is no best. Their is only good guns. All guns have pros and cons so there is no best. If you upgrade your gun to the max then you will have a very good gun but not the best. Remember that

How do I look professional?

Well here's some things to do and not to do to not make you look new to the sport. If you drop some paintballs or your hopper falls out and you lsoe some don't bother to pick them up. On fields there's many many paintballs lying on the ground and you would look foolish to pick them up. If you drop a lot them pick up a good handfull or two and put in back in your pod or hopper. Also handle your gun well....don't hold it like your afraid of it or it's a bomb. Hold it like a normal plastic gun (But don't treat it like one) firm and staedy (SP?).

Should I wear a cup?

Many people wear one because if you get shot there you won't be able to walk straight for days. Some don't because it bothers them when their running. You can put your pods in front of it and that will help a little.

Is there anything I can make at home for my gun?

Yes, you can make yourself a stand or even a grenade. There's some small home modififcation threads that will help you depending on what gun you have. Look through these forums for them.

What if I have a problem with my gun?

Well don't do anything untill you get our advice. Or you can call your local store and ask. Better yet, take your gun and and show them.

Where's a good place to buy paintball stuff?

www.xpaintball.com Great selection and cheap prices. They have many different brands and their our sponsors.

I think this thread should be a sticky because I have put some good effort and time into it to help lessen the amount of questions from new players out there which will help us all benefit it in all ways. If anyone has any questions then feel free to im, pm, or even email me.

I say this thread and my thread on setups should be a sticky. That would really eliminate most of these threads.

Both tippmans and spyders are good for either woodsball or speedball. I'm tired of this misinformation.

Well its even said on the Tippmann site. My friend had one and he just split it down the middle but becareful because all the stuff inside will fly out. I can probably strip down my spyder in about 2 minutes completly.
