Newb question.

New to this, about to buy a Tippman 98 Custom. Gonna be using stock barrel,
till I get money for a better one. What size is stock barrel on 98 Custom? And what paintballs should I buy for it?

i really dont know the stock size barrel but i presume its around 12-14 inches.
The paint you will want to buy is judged by your bore size which is .691 on a stock 98 or 98 custom. My personal favorites for this bore size are diablo Midnight, its great paint for a great price and will shoot nice and accurate through your barrel. There are many paintballs which will work just as well too, look in the barrels section sticky for paintball bore sizes.

the stock tippmann barrell is 9". and it will just about shoot any paint you wanna put in it, even though the cheapie paint will be very inaccurate due to its ****ty design and construction. when i've been cash strapped or run out of balls and had to use someone elses, i've used brass eagle and even blue streak CRAP from wall mart with few breaks.

I agree with Warrior SG...get a Spyder, their great guns. But my friend has a stock barrel on his 98 and it's really small....about 7-8 inches. If you wany more info about getting a gun then visit the 2nd page of this forum and I made a great topic called "Newbie Thread". Check it out.

~~~Glad To Help~~~
nightmare is a smaller sized bore so itll work...but it will not be as accurate and a medium bore paint which is what you really want. Check this list for paint in the "medium" bore size or anything around 688-691. http://www.ottersccustoms.com/paintc.html
One barrel that really improves the Tippmann 98 Custom's accuracy is the SmartParts Teardrop barrel. I have shot the Tippmann with many other barrels, and thus far I have found the Teardrop to be the best.
For the stock barrel on the Tippmann, I would reccomened anything from Diablo or PMI. Both companies make good paint, and PMI Big Ball's are $36 a case at my proshop. If you can't find it at your proshop, Wal-Mart has it.
I hope that helped. Hope you have a great time with your new gun, and welcome to the forum!
First off, welcome to the sport and the forums, I'm sure you'll enjoy both very much.
Second, forget most of the stuff you just heard, much of it is incorrect.
OK now. The 98C stock barrel is 8.5 inches. This is very short, and at this length, you'll lose accuracy. Try to buy a 12-14" barrel as soon as you can, you'll see a huge difference.
The bore size, or the size of the whole through which the paint travels, is .680. Therefore, you'll want to buy paint that is roughly that size. Click here to see a chart with the bore sizes of almost every paintball manufactured. I suggest Diablo paint, it works well. Diablo Hellfire is the smallest paint on that chart, and though it's slightly bigger than your bore, it will work better than others.
Another thing- I suggest you not buy paint from normal sporting good stores, as they often mishandle paint and break a few balls. Try to go to a paintball shop to buy paint. If there are none near you, you can probably buy paint at your local field, though it may be overpriced, and sometimes not as good quality-wise.
Once again, welcome.
i think youre wrong here. its proven that any barrel over after 4 or 5 inches has no accuracy difference. The only thing after that which affects accuracy is the paint to barrel match.
