let me be the first to welcome you to the great sport of paintball, and to this site. enjoy your self
good idea goin with the gun kit, there are some good ones around. i got a pirahna one when i first started, its lasted me this long and well. it depends on what your playing to figure out what kinda mods and gun you want. tippys are good wodsball guns, very durably. fishies(pirahnas) and spyders are good basic guns, and are easily upgradable, most spyders parts and mods can be used with fishies, and vice versa.
these guys here will help you out more than i have, and will get more specific about mods. hope you enjoy the game as much as i know we all do. have fun!

it all depends on what type of ball he wants to play. woodsball= anything from tippmann.
speedball= a spyder or spyder clone(stacked tube blowback) or if you can afford it somethin like a dragun or somethin like that.
EDIT: the only pb site that we can mention here is xpaintball.com, thats because they sponsor us. look around there, basicly any reputable looking site that you find w/ google should be pretty good.

Is the $350 for the marker or just the marker and gear? I suggest a Spyder Imagine as a marker. With this marker I suggest an electronic loader such as a Empire Reloader. As for a mask I suggest something thermal, such as a JT Proflex. Then I would get a CO2 Tank of any size, which ever one suits you best. Then get a pack and some pods. Then, to finish it off get a squeegee and a barrel condom. To finish off this order get a CP 1 Piece Barrel. This should equal pretty close to $350.

Personally, I'd go with a tippmann 98 Package. Why? Because those markers are virtually indestructable. I still have mine from a few years ago, still shoots. Then as time goes on, you'll see what you want to upgrade yourself. Maybe your mask fogs a little in the summer, so you'll spring for a new mask. Maybe you aren't getting a good bore match, so you'll spring for the new barrel. I say just get the Tippmann 98 Package that comes with the marker, hopper, mask, co2 tank, etc and go from there. All you'd need to play is a fill for your c02 tank and some paint to sling. Good luck and hope you stay in the sport.

I'd suggest getting a top of the line mask. Profiler, proflex, or invision. Don't skimp on the mask. You['ll regret it.

ProFlexes are great masks... I own one and prefer it to my Invision. Wea r a few at a shop and see which is more comfortable for you.
I'd quote MP11's post word for word if you asked me personally.

Autococker, and if it breaks just get help in these forums. Although if you get an autococker your going to want to invest in a Nitro tank which can be a lot of money. You can use c02 for a little while as your saving up for a nitro tank but when I used to use c02 on my cocker I got tons of problems
