Read Everything, Need Help
Ok, I've played paintball about half a dozen times at fields where I rented guns, but the cost of the rental, the field, and the paint added up too much for a lot of my friends, and about half a dozen bought guns and play every other week or so.
I'm looking to buy a gun and basic starting equipment. I've done a lot of research, and have ruled out anything electronic as most of the playing will be in winter, and we get a LOT of rain in the summer anyway. (Live an hour off Lake Eerie, it rains for atleast half of the summer). From what I've seen, I am looking for a mechanical autococker. I have from 300-400 dollars for everything I need for paintball, and I was wondering what the best gun/mask/hopper for my money is.

Get an expensive mask. Get a profiler invision or proflex. The cheaper you pay for a mashk teh cheaper quality you get. I sport a profiler and I have NO complaints.
For a gun, look on the pbnation classifieds. Tons of good deals.
And for a hopper... An Empire reloader will not let you down with a mech cocker.

^agreed, but to expand on it a little
- WGP 2k3 Vertical Feed autococker($220)
- VForce ProFiler($80)
-20oz CO2 w/ antishipon stuff by your local proshop($40)
- Empire Reloader($45)
Total: $385
take that extra $15 and buy a Pure Energy(in my experience the best provider of cheap HPA) aluminum tank which will cost around $80

Where on earth can you find one at that price? (I'm looking for something NEW, so used ones aren't really an optino)

Glad to see you read through the FAQ's before posting, let me try to help you out here.
An autococker is a nice gun, but is a complicated marker for a new player. Starting off with an autococker will present more difficult problems that you do not want to deal with early in your "career"
Also, although it may seem practical, I suggest that you do not purchase a beginners package. These are usually rip-offs that will need to be replaced later.
To fit your paintball style and the conditions of which you play, I am actually going to reccomend a tippmann. I usually almost always tell new players to not use tippmanns, but when I lived in Boston it was always cold there, and I found that my spyder would have more technical and preformance problems then my friends tippman; which he still has and uses to this day.
So start off with a Tippman 98c as your gun, and pick up a 14oz CO2. Try to get this anti-siphoned by an airsmith at your shop, as this will greatly increase reliability and preformance in the cold weather.
Then for basic materials, go over to each section and ask about the right equipment for you. I could reccomend a google system, but am not sure of what exactly you want from your goggles. The tippman should come with a hopper and all the basic materials you will need for matinence. Just put on some jeans and a sweatshirt and start ballin. Practicing and playing will make you better in no-time, and you will soon be ready for that cocker
If you have any further questions post them here, or contact me on aim.

www.air-powered.com

Hmm... A tippmann seems like a very durable gun, but I'm not entirely sure what all you would need to upgrade to make it function like a cheaper autococker. (People I'm playing with have cheaper autocockers or electro spyder clones) What are the recommended upgrades for the gun, do I need a response trigger, expansion chamber, flatline barrel?

Upgrades are a matter of preference. Frankly, a Tippman with anti-siphon, a aftermarket barrel and other various upgrades. If you need more information on that you should visit the tippman sub-section and read the FAQ's there and ask more specific questions. I had a tippman 98 with a flatline, and can basically tell you not the get a flatline....The people in the tippmann sub-forums will know alot more.
Check out air-powered.com and see if a cocker is right for you. If you want to go with a tippmann, inquire for more information in the tippmann sub-forums or maybe go to tippman pneumatics website and broswe around.

As a swede I know what it is to be playing in the cold (acctually played in 80cm snow once).
Fist stop: Get a good mask, don't go cheap on it Alpha is right.
2:nd: Get a Good squeegie (no use cheaping out there either, ask the ppl at your field what they think is the best there is).
3:rd: How much firepower do U need (can U afford)? U might want to concider a Pump (if so go to pump marker thread under markers).
4:th: If U need the firepower (or just want it ) a 98c is a good durable thing that wont let u down. However get a aftermarket barrel Tippmans are known to have bad barrels (read: bad accuracy and more then an occasional need of that good squeegie in point 2).

Don't fall into the hype that tippmann have the most upgrdaes on teh market. Sure htye have a few of tippmann's patented systems, but you can't get nearly as many worthwhile parts that will actually help performance.
I'd suggest not even going near CO2 and getting HPA.

I'd suggest you reading that he has a 300-400 dollar budget and is new. A anti-siphon c02 will be just as good for the time being.
Tippmann doesn't have the most upgrades and I never said that. They have alot of upgrades that will help the gun fit your style of play much better,

don't get a cocker for ur first gun..they are high maitnence and u can easily screw tehm up if u don't know what your doing. Tippmans are durable and suitable for where u live. HPA would be the way to go but there is nothing wrong with c02. U might want to consider an expansion chamber as tippmans are known to be gashogs. Any standard hopper is fine. U must get an anti fog mask. When peoples masks fog they would usually take them off to clean them and you cant do that during a game. Sinice u live in a humid area keep your paint sealed in its bags untill your going to use it. Humidity will cause paint to swell and it will break in teh barrel or jam your gun. Good luck.

i dunno, i got my autococker with the upgrades listed for 185 on ebay, and if you wanted to up a tippy to get it like that...it would end up costing you more. don't forget, buying a gun is a one-time deal; but the upgrades are almost endless
