Best advice ever given to you?
What was the most useful advice ever given to you when you first started playing?
I've been playing for a couple of years now, but I really can't figure out what a newbie wants to hear. I've recently started getting friends into the sport [who are completely new], and I want to give them valuable advice and hopefully keep them in the sport.

1) Don't take the sport too seriously -- it is after all a game, and we are playing because its fun.
2) save lots of money -- pball is expensive.

Best advice? I can think of a few.
"Don't be afraid of getting hit; simply be cautious not to be eliminated."
Which is to say, don't fear the paintball- but the paintballer. You're always going to be vulnerable to getting hit, so you have to simply go with your best instinct.
"Don't hesitate, but don't get impulsive."
That is, it's always good to think before jumping out of a bunker, but also too much hesitation will give your opponent the advantage and ultimately demobilize you.
And lastly, "don't fall prey to paintball marketing hype and scams." Simply: research, evaluate, and if all else fails, try it before you buy it.
If nobody else seems to be using certian paintball gear, there is a reason. You'll want to know if it's because they have more money than you, less money than you, or if the product is simply a flop. It is rarely the case that no one knows about it.

Things like "keep your mask on" and "keep your barrel plugs on" is more then just advice. Those are the rules.
But the best advice I ever got was to BE AGRESSIVE. Paintball seems alot scarier to a newb that it really is. Newbs tend to stay in the back, and make easy targets.
Encourage them that it doesnt hurt as much as they think... or at least it won't hurt forever.

I was told that it isn't the gun that makes the player it's the player that makes the gun.
In other words, the gun is just one part of playing this game, if you are dumb walkin onto the field, you'll be the first dummy walkin off. If I can get to a better position on the field and you are sitting to where I can see you, but you just keep looking around the bunker one way, you aren't playing smart, and you have all the gear and better gun then everyone out there, but I am just playign smarter with my crappy marker!!!

My advice is somewhat like dfdtrumpet's, with my own little twist. When I first started playing, my friends advice to me was, I dont care what you do, dont shoot our team, and dont get shot, ever... or I'll kill you. Well... the killing thing didnt sound to good. So when I give advice to anyone regarding paintball and well... just about anything in life anymore its as simple as "Don't be a pussy."

Mine was "Keep getting in there and keep getting hit...everytime you get hit you can think of how or why you got hit and then work on not getting hit for that reason anymore."

Always check your hits. If you feel like your hit, dont just get up and walk off...make sure the paint broke first.
Theres been times where Ive been hit 5-6 times by the same person without a break...so always check yourself.

Keep your head down when trying to run up to a bunker, unless you need to shoot while moving up. that was a noobie tip i learned.
Recently though one of our ref's took me out on the course and taught me a way to do better in the dorito. if you kind of kneel down and point your feet to the left side while leaning out of the right its easier to be less showing on the right side when you lean, and also you can pop around if someone tries to bunker you because your lower body is already facing the left side.
doubt that makes since, but anyway...yeah

The best advice i was given was:
No Fear = No Regrets
If you're scared to run out into the open to make a flag pull, then you'll be regreting the decision for the rest of the game.
