Someone to organize an event at our resort
In Northwest Wisconsin, Telemark Resort and Convention Center is on 900 acres - wooded, meadow, hills. Looking for someone familiar with the sport to organize a paintball competition at our resort. It could be a one-time event, or could develop into multiple events. Seeking advice on practicality, plausibility, etc.

Question is: would you be willing to pay for someone to go and do that for you? I live in New Jersey and wouldn't mind helping, but I definitely wouldn't be able to do it myself. I think most people here would tell you the same thing. A lot goes into preparing a field for play, especially scenario play if that's what you're looking for, advertisement, sponsors/vendors, and that's just what you can see.
Maybe post more of your ideas and that'll target specific types of players. Some are more into the role-playing of a scenario where others just wanna have fun and go shoot people out in the woods.

My recommendation would be check into reserving your local paintball field. Can usually be done for the same price as admission for the group, might as well make it private while your at it. Plus you get the benifit of having a provided ref, rental, supplies and usually a guy that knows a few things about paintball guns that can make them work when some kid starts complaining that his guns broke. So as you can see renting your local field would provide a better experience for a fraction of the cost.

I will strongly second this idea. This will save you a lot of money and time.

The nearest field is at least 2 hours. We want an event here at the resort, on our grounds, using our lodge, eating our food, drinking our...whatever. Payment would be made to the organizer - a split of the entry fees, free lodging, etc. all negotiable. Thanks for the replies.

if that doesn't work out I have a buddy that can get a hold of about 100 paintball guns they wont be like high end or anything but he can also get about 100-300 people up there maybe but I would have to talk to him first (only thing you would need is a crono and a way to fill CO2 and Air tanks)

I would like to have a serious conversation with someone who can promote an event such as this. It could be structured for people to bring their own paintball guns, couldn't it? I do not know what a crono is. We can refill tanks.

Laura,
Yes, you can construct a scenario event in which attendees have to bring their own guns and paint, however, you're limiting your market if you do so. Paintballer5000 is basically telling you that you should talk to a company such as Tippmann USA (or his friend) to discuss the option of temporarily leasing guns, CO2/HPA/N2 cans, gear, and other items necessary to run such an event. This will allow you to rent out guns and gear and sell ammo (paintballs). Doing so will instantly increase your player-base.
A chrono is basically a radar detector or speed gun (not exactly the technical definition, but you get the idea) in which players shoot their guns in front of and it tells you how fast your gun is shooting (in FPS (feet per second)). Some guns can shoot up to 400-500 FPS but most fields will regulate it so that players can't shoot more than 280 FPS. Not only for the safety of the players, but also for the referee's.
I really hope that a company get's back to you because an individual won't be able to pull off a scenario event alone.

Thank you for the lead - Tippmann - and for the additional information. Most events we hold at Telemark Resort are brought here through the efforts of a promoter - i.e., snowcross races, hillclimbs, duathlons, triathlons, disc golf, etc. The events make money for the promoter, for the resort, and the participants have a great time here - it's basically all inclusive - food, lodging, and fun. It seems to me, there must be people interested in running an event like this, or are there too many permanent locations already?

There are people interested, but the question is, for them I would think, what's the cost to benefit ratio? Yes, there are a lot of permanent locations which give them an immediate answer to their question; there's more benefit to them by holding it at a permanent place versus having to set-up from scratch.
An easy way to go, in my opinion, would be to rent inflatable bunkers and such and hold like a 5-man or 7-man tourney, or even X-ball type stuff rather than a scenario. The 5 & 7-man tourney's run quicker, are easier to set-up, and don't require as much "muscle work" as a scenario. There are many companies that currently sell the inflatable bunkers. If this is something you think you'd wanna hold every year, then buying some might be a better way to go. You'll get more for your money in the long run.
Again, this is just my 2 cents on the whole deal.

A good paintball scenario promoter and co-host is Blackcat Paintball Productions. They run scenario games all across the country. The site is www.blackcatpaintball.com I play and love their scenarios.
