A couple points I'd like to make.

-If you support free trade, you might as well support free immigration (Economic mumbo jumbo: Since if we adhere to things like, factor price equalization, they basically do the same thing)

-If you are going to be a skilled worker you should support them (you can benefit more from specialization that way)

-If you say "they're here illegally," then guess what, they're EMPLOYED here illegally, and even the federal gov't turns a blind eye in many circumstances so even the federal gov't is participating in illegal acts. (I'll even make the argument that we have such low rates of inflation and such low produce prices thanks to illegal aliens.)

Now for some counter comments

That depends on how they're paid. If they're put on payrolls, (thanks to laws passed during Reagan's years as president, this is relatively easy)((For instance, I can go to Main St., Santa Ana and pick up a green card for 50 bucks and a SS card for a little more than that)) then they pay taxes but can't file for a refund (which they would get considering they're probably living at or below the poverty line.

How about illegal employment? Are you against that as well? And tell me, are you concerned at all that some analysts are predicting that fruits and vegetables produced in the US are going to rot on the vine because we don't have enough people to pick them?

If you want to get some really good arguement for and against immigration, go to a local university and look up academic journals that have published guys such as, (thomas?) Borjas, Martin Wolf, Thomas Leibig & Ray Marshall.

It's impossible for either side to really say whether or not our economy benefits or is hurt by illegals. There are a lot of benefits and there is a lot of harm that they do.

But what is indisputable, and IMO should be the main focus of this debate is security. "Free immigration" means we're allowing anyone in here who wants to come in. What's to stop Mexico to close a couple of its prisons to save money, and allow the prisoners to flee to America?
And of course we have to consider terrorism. The backbone of our "fight on terror" is intelligence.

Lemme pose this question to you. What's stopping Romania from doing this? Or any other EU country for that matter?

Unless they're going through the Mexican border, they have to pass through customs.

I should have clarified....I was talking in regards to the freedom of movement in the EU, and what would stop a country like Romania from releasing their prisoners.

In anycase, the whole letting prisoners out is a dumb example.

You could probably look into some arguments by libertarian think tanks in support of freedom of movement, but you can do that on your own since I'm almost done printing out my study material for a test I've got tomorrow.

It's a dumb example but the truth is that Mexico likes the fact that people are immigrating to the US illegally. It just means less people for them to have to worry about, and those illegals in the US are sending money back home.

You're both morons. Why I do this is beyond me...

Are you saying my Romania-EU & Mexico-US comparison is dumb?

While I'm not going to dispute the fact the remitance isn't a large part of the Mexican economy (2nd only to their oil revenue) I will dispute the fact that they openly want Mexicans to migrate to the US (And I'll say this is due to loss of GDP when immigration goes from source to host nations)
