Another thing I don't understand is this whole Spanish as a second language (of business, etc). I mean, crap, if you can't take the Driver's License test in English, how in the hell are you going to read the road signs when you're on the road? I'm totally against having all these gov't services (especially public schools) providing translation for people that aren't making an effort to learn English. Just gives people another excuse to stay in their cocoon since they expect the gov't to roll out the red carpet for them on everything. Which reminds me of affirmative action....ooh that makes my blood boil, I'll stop now.

They're two economists who theorize on the effects of immigration. You will find it very boring. So instead, I'll recommend something fun and entertaining to read. "Ask A Mexican" by Gustavo Arellano. Also if you don't like reading.

Goto iTunes-->Store-->Pod Casts and then look up Tom Leykis. Then do a subsearch for "Ask a mexican"

The reason I say this is because you're arguing with a lot of rhetoric (which even I've done in previous discussions on this topic here).

I have no problem with immigrants, my family immigrated to the US. The difference though is they did it legally and followed the rules. Just like my friend Maggie is now. We have systems in place for a reason and they should be followed. Because of vast number of illegal immigrants, it hurts those who are trying to get in legally.

It might be my law enforcement side peaking through (after all I'm half Law/CJ major), but that's how I feel.

Now, if your friend had the opportunity to sneak in, would he? Does he not come here illegally because it's the "Right thing to do" or doesn't come here illegally because he can't?

Honestly, I came from a third world country, and even though I came here legally, I can more than understand why people would come here illegally. And illegal immigration will not stop until conditions in their home-country are good enough to provide for people a safe, sustainable life.

So in short, it's like Comrade said, the system is broken and no one is fixing it.

I liked the woman's analogy even if it may be flawed. It makes sense. The US should have extremely strict parameters in order to get into the country and enforce the borders heavily. That way, anybody who is willing to learn and work for it can get into the states. I know that "not everyone has the resources", but you can't fix everything.
