Don't worry, I'm not flaming you. I just want to make it clear that you should always question really far-fetched ideas like this.

But, it should also be made clear that just because something is outlandish doesn't mean you should instantly think "This is bull****". People used to believe that maggots just magically appeared in rotting flesh (Abiogenesis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and that the world was the center of the universe and surrounded by various spheres that carried the stars and planets (Geocentric model - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). When someone suggested that life comes from other life, and that the earth revolves around the sun, these new "outlandish" ideas were met with harsh opposition. Fortunately, the scientists who proposed them offered evidence and they were eventually accepted by the scientific community.

This is where the difference lays- the theories you proposed aren't backed by much, if any, evidence. Copernicus backed his "crazy" idea up with evidence (the movement of planets, math, etc). These theories you found base themselves on a very remote possibility (See: Yellowstone Super Volcano), and are only talked about because of mankind's obsession with doomsday.

I'll quit ranting- but basically if someone comes up to you with a crazy idea, before you walk away, ask if they have evidence. If they claim to, hear them out. It's probably bull**** evidence, but it's still good to keep an open mind.

What I mean is, if you imaginee a horizontal plane that goes through the center of the universe, the Earth moves in a sinusoidal kind of wave through this plane (that's the best way I can think of to describe it). At some times it is above this plane, and at others below. Basically they're predicting one of these switches.

Because of this passing through it's said that it might cause a pole shift due to new gravitational and magnetic forces. They say this might cause some interesting ****, like the place starting fire, etc. (See pole shift above—I only skimmed the thread originally.)

But that's all speculation, and in my opinion they don't really have enough facts to base any real, definite this is what's going to happen theories on. Guessing isn't my business, so I don't care.

Side note...
If the Mayans were so damn smart, why did they wipe themselves off the face of the planet?
that was it. polarity switches, all our electricity is ****. everything with a semi-conductor in it goes to ****, since + becomes -. power grid shuts down, cities in mayhem==end of the world :P
