I'm for it. Our economy could use it. Plus it would be a load off the back of LEOs. Its less harmful than alcohol or tobacco.

Legislators aim to snuff out penalties for pot use - CNN.com
Thats the full article from cnn.
There have been 20 million marijuana-related arrests since 1965, he said, and 11 million since 1990, and "every 38 seconds, a marijuana smoker is arrested."
Rob Kampia, director of the Marijuana Policy Project, said marijuana arrests outnumber arrests for "all violent crimes combined," meaning police are spending inordinate amounts of time chasing nonviolent criminals.
That statistic right there is reason enough to reform curent marijuana laws. Marijuana doesnt harm anyone, and our tax dollars can be better spent trying to stop real crime or real drugs.

It's not illegal to be high. It's illegal to possess and cultivate marijuana. (And paraphenalia, selling, etc..)
I honestly think we're not that far off from it being legalized. There is TONS of money the government could make off taxing it. It's safer than most everything out there.

We waste too much time and money imprisoning people who smoke pot, and putting them through court. Legalize it, let the big tobacco companies produce it, and everyone will be safe and happy.

The only thing I have against that is that big tobacco companies would be relatively inexperienced at it (compared to growers up in Humboldt county). Not to mention they use pesticides with two carcinogens that stick to the fibers of the tobacco (lead 210 and polonium 210) so when you smoke it you inhale heavy metals. They'd probably use the same pesticides on marijuana.
Of course the whole marijuana culture is intertwined with the hippy organic culture so I doubt big tobacco crap would flood the market. Smart growers would get it certified organic and get all the prius driving moms in SF.

Agreed.
We have too many freaked out old people when it comes to pot. A lot of people associate it with lung cancer just because its smoke so they instantly think of cigarettes.

Yes thats true, tobacco companies wouldnt have good stuff at first but they would pay millions to experienced growers around the world to help them learn. Not to mention people who actually know what they are doing like those growers out in cali and mexico would create their own companies. If pot was all of a sudden legal you can bet your ass I would be growing in my backyard. Id have my own personal farm of chron. Im getting a hard on just thinkin about it...

I think that it definitely should be legalized. Almost every kid and adult I know smokes it. I talked to my cousin who is 25 and gets along with all the adults in the family, and apparently they have all had their days as well.

If we legalized it, along with other drugs,... think of how much money the gov't could make off of taxes.
People are going to do these drugs.... why not make money instead of spending to lock them up in a prison, when they aren't hurting anyone but themselves?

i think its a bad idea, we have enoufgh problems with drunk drivers in this contry, we dont need high drivers as well. instead of those signs saying "please dont drink and drive" they will now read "please dont take a hit and drive" someone back in college did a persuasive speach on leagalizing it, at the end it was open to discussion, we came to the conclusion that leagalizing it would basically double the amount of drunk driving injurys and deaths. The person giving the speach couldnt find a way around that.
Im against it, people dont need drugs to be happy

LOL. Now first off, I'll openly admit that I have driven a car both high and drunk. Driving while high doesn't impair your judgement NEARLY as much as alcohol does. Before I got busted in March, I had been pulled over a few times while being high and on the road and a cop never thought anything of it. I was also relax and polite and got away with warnings both times. (speeding)
How many cases have there been of people dying from driving while high? I sure haven't heard of any. I'll even spice this up a little bit. When I got pulled over in March for possession and paraphernalia, I straight up told the cop that we had been smoking. He knew I was high. He made the police report, called my father and let me drive home! A police officer, knew I was high on marijuana, and still let me drive home. Where as if I even had a drop of alcohol in my system, I would have gone to jail and I'd be in a DUI situation.
I think the worst thing that ever happened while I was driving high is I ran a stop sign when I was driving and hitting a pipe. Bad idea but oh well. Anyways, I'm just saying the two are completely different. Sure, driving while high probably still isn't the smartest thing to do, but it's not nearly as dangerous as a drunk driver.
P.S. PBF I'm off papers December 23rd... Merry Christmas to me!
