I have this itch to just buy something cool to play paintball with. i thought about a paintball pistol. just to have and use every once in a while if i feel like it. does anyone know how effective these are and whether they are worth it. i was considering buying the Ariakon Overlord or the Combat pistol if that is any help. my 98C works just fine. i just thought a pistol would be cool to have.

well itd be cool to have one, but idk if it would be very practical. i doubt they shoot very good at any distance over 15-20 feet...maybe if youre doing a mil-sim kinda game or something like that.
well, i read the facts on it. they say that it is effective up to 150 ft. but accuracy at that range.... i dont know. i think it would just be really neat to use if playing the President game or something or for close indoor games.

yeah for scenarios or small games it seems cool. its just that with only like 8 inches of barrel or whatever it is on a pistol, you cant get great accuracy like you could with a 12-14 inch barrel.
well i have a delta 68 it is probally the only pistol worth getting. the araikon and armotech pistols dont have the quick release so it is a pain in the ass to change co2. also the clip fed tiberious pistol is just too expensive.
pistols do have a shorter range and less accuracy but the increased mobility you can get from carring less weight can make up for it. it is very fun to play with one and if you want to get one go for it. i would suggest getting a pump though instead.
People are often surprised at the distance of pistols.
Guys, 280 FPS is 280 FPS no matter what it's comming out of. Pistols, with a shorter barrel, actually do better jobs at shooting out broken paint, there isn't as much barrel to cover and clean as the ball is going by.
The reason the Armotech pistols did not have the quick release is because of the problems that people have had with quick releases (as in doing it wrong and spewing CO2). Zeus pistol also came out with a pin that was part of the CO2 cap that allowed you added leverage. I've used them playing, and I've done several games with just pistols. It has not been a "pain in the ass" simple because I didn't have a problem getting used to it or dealing with it. I wasn't lazy so it wasn't a problem.
Tiberius Pistols are a bit pricy, but there is a reason for it.
The ammount of work that's gone into it is insane. The CO2 capsule is being sealed as you take the clip out of the pistol. You aren't stuck with running out of CO2 mid clip like on most pistols out there. When you change clips, you change CO2 capsules.
1 CO2 capsule will last for 3 clip loads (8 round clips makes that 24 shots). It's also more streamlined body than the other pistols, which stack tube on top of tube on top of tube. They get a little too big. Tiberius does not.
I've played several scenario games with just pistols. I've shot alot of the pistols out there. I still use my Zeus pistols and they work like a charm. They are built like tanks and easy to repair in the chance something goes wrong.
I suggest going with a Zeus (CoreZX is same thing) or a Tiberius.
As per the practicality question, they are very practical. Perhaps not for tourney ball, but that's not what I'm talking about, or the thread starter is talking about.
Look at any weapon carrying personell in the world today. They carry a sidearm. Why? If the primary is empty, and there is still shooting going on, and they don't have time to reload, the sidearm gets pulled and used.
I've had several times when I've cleared buildings, and when I'm about to pull the trigger, ammo is gone. So I drop the primary (its on a sling) and draw my sidearm.

Oh how I wish I could get a Redux (Desert Duck replica), I was on the list for first batch but .. never heard anything. Wonder if anyone ever got any :P
I had a Zeus for quite awhile, and frankly it was a pretty amusing marker. practically no weight (well in comparison to any of my other markers...) ment even my out of shape self could do some pretty spectacular run throughs, dives, bunkering with it. Yeah 10 rounds was a bit limiting, and reloading was a laugh (no tubes... why did I not buy any tubes or spare mags :P). Suffice it to say I went out usually with 11 rounds and won or got splattered on those 11 rounds
No one has replied to this thread in over a year so let's see how many people reply this time around (*EDIT* I was reading the join dates, hehe) but I just bought a Tiberius 8 today and the thing is pretty sick. I only have one extra mag as of right now. I have not played a game with it yet but I did don my tubes, mag holster, right handed leg holster and mask for a test run in the woods today. I wanted to see how it fired first. I also wanted to see what it was like shooting on the run, changing clips on the run, putting more balls in the clip while moving, etc. I went through two 12gm CO2 carts (one in each clip) and decided to call it quits because it was windy, cold, and pretty dark. It was almost dark when I went out but I didn't care. I couldn't even see the sites the entire time I was out today so that will be something for broad daylight.
The thing is pretty accurate. You fire, it hits. Poof! It's quick. Might be in need of a chrono. A few tricks I noticed already mainly lie in the clip. One, when you are putting the CO2 in the clip you have to tighten a screw in to puncture the seal. When you feel it get tense (about to go through) reposition the allen wrench so you can get a good full turn then tighten it in one quick pass as fast as you can. Least amount of air leakage possible. The smell reminds me of whip-its. Second tip would be when you reload, make sure you kind of slap in the last two inches. Don't mess around about it just guide it most of the way then slap her in. If you push the clip in slowly it just doesn't feel quite right and considering a proper load leaves the first two balls loose, I don't want to risk them being off target in the machine and just breaking. I have yet to break a ball in the whopping amount of time I've used the pistol but with proper reloads I'm hoping it's something I can avoid.
I would like to use this weapon as a primary at least once because I prefer to sneak up on people and fire only killing shots for the majority. This should be a stalking woodsball player's best friend. If not, fun toy regardless. Sorry, WARNING: NOT A TOY. Either way it would leave both my hands free to monkey myself around the woods grabbing trees to help get up hills faster and with less foot movement hopefully.
I'll post again after she sees some battle.

Reason: I'm a bonehead.
Just as an update, by locking the CO2 in quickly and counting my shots I am now able to get exactly three clips (plus a dry fire or two) out of each 12gm cart.
After about 500 balls I finally encountered a problem. When I inserted a clip, air would leak out of the inside of the gun. The manual told me it was an O ring and which one to reposition. Sure enough it was out of place when I opened the pistol.
I repositioned it and closed my gun except now I can't put the gun assembly back in the handle without it pulling the trigger all the way back. My gun is fully assembled right now so I don't lose parts but I can't turn my safety and I can't depress my trigger.
I called the service center but they must be a M-F kind of place. I called at 2:30am on a Friday and then 1pm on Saturday and got voicemail each time. I left a message the second time and a phone number but have received no call yet.

you obviously know nothing about paintball pistols. My ariakon overlord rx is as accurate, and shoots as far as a stock tippmann 98 custom. more accurate than a stock A5.

Ok, we know your new to the forum but just some advice, dont resurect old threads. You WILL be hated.
But just some advice for pistol owners/soon to be, some pistols have barrels you can buy that are longer or suit your needs. At my feild they have a tiberous with a stock, 14in barrel, scope etc... made to look like a sniper rifle.

If nothing else it was economical....
Reduxes are in production - I just got one. It's the most beautifully made paintball gun I've ever held. They're limited run so if you want one, call Steve "Mongo" Brett. See the website for availability: http://www.desertduckdd68.com/31705.html
