spyder compact 2000
my friend handed one of these to me because he said it was broken. ive never worked on a spyder before but i took it apart i realized the o-ring on the bottom bolt was missing, so i stretched a tank o-ring over it. does anyone know anything about spyder compacts? i know it is a very old gun so im wondering if its still possible to find parts for it. the tank o-ring doesnt quite fit, but it works better than not having one at all. also the grip on the trigger frame is completely hollow is there anything important that i could/should/need to put in there? thanks

All spyder parts are interchangable. You could get parts for compacts, easy. All grips are hollow, is there something covering it? You could just buy some stickies, or something. Good luck with the new gun. Spyders are extremely easy to learn, and work on.

go out and buy a few orings for your bolt. u can put sum nice dye stickies on the grip, but there is nothing you need to put in, it should be hollow. if it has a stock barrel on it your definately gonna want a new one. other than that it should be the same as any other spyder mech.

actually there is no barrell with the gun... so i need to buy one anyways. in fact the only thing i did get with it was the elbow for the hopper. and for the bolt o-rings is there a name or particular size? the tank o-ring which i put on it is slightly too small so i need something bigger than that.

hey... would anyone happen to know what size the threads on spyder barrels/guns are? if they are metric forget about it, and im talking about the threads on the barrel not the bore size. if you know what size they are or can tell me whether they are metric or not i would really appreciate it.

Thread size? They are spyder threaded. Any barrel for a spyder will fit on it. Those guns are fun to do custom work on because they are cheap. Go to ottercustoms.org he turned one of those into a Autococker

for thread size i meant the size of the threads, as in either in. or cm. or another unit of measurement, and how many threads per inch. i emailed the guy at otterscustoms.org and he doesnt know either

Why do u want to know the size of the barrel threading. All u have to know is u want ur barrel to come w/ spyder threading. Trust me EVERYONE that makes barrels makes a spyder version. And don't worry about compatibility b/c ur spyder is old, they havn't changed the threads. As to o-rings dont know the size.. Did it come w/ a manuel if not check online at spyders site, i beleive they have every manuel up there, it might tell u the size, or u could email kingman and ask, i'm sure they'd help.
Get a j&j barrel $35 usually
and yes the handel should be hollow.

the reason for needing the thread size is so i can make my own barrel. its free, and its a cheap ass gun so i dont care if the barrel sucks i just need something to put there. i have another barrel to model it after to get the bore size right and stuff. why i want another barrel, i dont know. maybe its too much work to take the barrel off every time i want to use the other gun. all i know is i want another barrel and i dont want to spend any money.

Making your own barrel would cost you more then the cheapest barrel and it would be less efficiant then the cheapest barrel.

yea i dont think u understand how much work goes into those barrels. They are microhoned to like .6888 I doubt u can replicate that precision. Drop $35 on a j&j ceramic (j&j performance makes them) and be happy.

while it would be less efficient (might i say MUCH less efficient) it is not more expensive than buying another barrel. it is free because my dad has all the machinery stuff at work, and aluminum is cheap so no one would care if he took some. if it isnt microhoned, oh well, as long as it is somewhere between .68 and .69 it will be good enough to play paintball with. you have to understand im going with quantity here not quality... and the quantity is 1 because it is more than 0 which is what i have.

I still think ur making a mistake. I'd rather have a proven $35 barrel than some free thing from a little left over aluminum (which isn't the best for a barrel either)

true a $35 barrel would be better. i'll probablly end up buying one anyways. but it would be fun to at least try to make a custom barrel... i mean you hear people saying "i have a custom trigger setup" or a custom paintjob or custom this and custom that, but come on, who makes a custom barrel? me.

I should have got here a while ago...
I am a Compact 2000 owner adn these things do have different internals from the newer spyders. The Bolts are same so you can interchange them, however move to your striker and its larger than the newer ones. You have to order a striker o-ring for a pre-00 or something i cant remember the year they changed it.
You also may want to consider polishing your internals on this as well i noticed a much smoother operation after doing that. Make sure you buy a new set of springs as well, or a spring kit. These things are old and if you havent changed springs you will be dissapointed in its ability to keep up with the newer mech spyders.
The girp is ment to be hollow(basically a skel;eton frame) that is stock for the compact and most of the spyders i believe. It doesn't make the grip wekaer or anything.

well i dont think i need new springs... first time at the chrono it was like 315 and when i turned it down as far as it would go it was like 260-270. i got an electro spyder clone (E Rex) and in the spare parts kit it had bolt o-rings so i used that. but thanks anyways.
p.s. how would i go about polishing the internals... its two stacked tubes welded together so not easy to get inside, plus the gun is in good condition and i needed only to wash out the 3 pounds of black grease inside it to get it working. i think it works fine now. also if i wanted to install a bottomline/asa with gas-thru grip, how would i go about doing that since the grip is hollow? nothing to mount it on. thanks again for your help.

hey gald to hear it works good.
Polishing your internals is basically sanding down your bolt and striker, not the inside of the gun itself...
ottersccustoms.com has the how to.
For the bottom line kit i have that if you would be interested in purchasing it from me.
It comes with the line, Adapter to screw into the current Vertical bottle adapter as well as the asa for the bottom grip.
If your interested in the bottom line kit email me or hit me up on MSN we can talk more there.....
