Zeus in Speedball for a Day! :P

Picked up a Zeus G1+ for messing around with and playing Scenario with for like 99 bucks with an Armotech Holster. Messed around with it a bit and thought it would be a neat toy, but never really used boy was I wrong

This past saturday I took it out to my local field along with my new Karnivor, and also my younger brother whos never played before. After the first few games my bro's Spyder broke down and instead of paying an extra 15 bucks to rent a field 98 for him I let him borrow my Karni and I whipped out the Zeus. Now the majority of the day we were playing 5 and 7 man speedball, and I figured man am I going to be a dead duck.

I didn't have a bottemline or hopper adapter for the Zeus so I was stuck with a pocketfull of CO2s and even worse I didn't have any 10 round tubes, so I just lugged out a single 140 loader full of balls (nice not to carry 6 for a change :P) Over the next 8 hours I played about 12 games with the Zeus, and wow was I surprised at what I could do with this little gem. My mobility on the field doubled, it was also surprisingly accurate (though I wasn't making any long range shots). By playing aggresively and shooting conservitively, I was able to get in quickly, and pull off quite a few bunkering shots. The speed, plus the fact I was only shooting shots I figured I had a good chance of making (thus moving quietly without laying down paint to support my move) let me get in close and really lay a hurting down.

As for the weaknesses, the weaknesses were almost fun, the sheer idiocy of having to twist off a cap to change CO2 and hand loading paint while some shockers and angels were lighting up my bunker was exhilirating :P

I don't think I really did better, and maybe a little worse than playing with my Karni, but boy it was so much fun! And heck I got a little notoriety, "Your going to play with that?", "The Pistol Guy got me!", and more people asked me questions about my stupid 100 dollar pistol than my 1000 dollar cocker :P

PLaying with a handicap is what makes the game fun. I went out with just my pump one game and locked up my ish in my box. One of my friends asked me why I wan't using my piranha. I told him how much mroe fun pump was, and he just didn't get it.

See... skill and determination make a player, not the marker. I admit it helps to have a muppet mowing, paint throwing, super cocker if you are doing tourneys. But you accidentally found the greatest truth in paintball -- it doesn't matter what you shoot as long as you have fun!

Congrats -- now try pump speedball and let us know how you did.

Actually, your not the 1st person I have seen do that and i know you wont be the last.

1st: I would love to know where you got a G1+, they just got released from customs like Tuesday, unless you know a dealer.

Most of the people that I have read/seen play pistol style will either have a Zeus G1 pistol then a G2 for the extended barrel (longer shots).

Alot of them will go dual, which is just cool, but it does take alot of mobility to be able to use pistols. Plus it takes alot of *temperment* not to just shoot off the entire clip in a few seconds.

But as it was stated, its not the tool, its the user. Another person said a while ago that when he looks at a bunker in speed ball when someone unload a 140 round hopper into it, the only thing he sees is 140 missed tags.

Ya you cant lay down fire like you can with angels or other high-end markers, but while they are spending $50-100 a day in paint, you can spend $15 for a bag of 500 and that will last you a weekend.

It comes down to preference and style and ability. But diving with a $100 pistol is a hell alot easier then diving with a $1000 marker.

Hmm on the G1+ I had it next day aired to me from Jasco, however it may just be a G1 (description said G1+ when I ordered it whats the difference? :P)

I really wouldn't want 2... its amusing to use but even holstering just 1 its not really super comfortable maybe I just have the wrong holster for it, but its still pretty darn big.

Honestly, Im not 100% sure.

From the responces and reading that I have done the only real difference are the grip and the valve pin.

As for which you have, its hard to tell. Its *possible* that you have a new G1+, but it would be very close.

I say this only cause I havent heard anything on anyone saying they got them in stock yet, expertshot is selling them, but devilmountain has live inventory and he has zero on hand and both are VERY good on getting the new stuff in.

When I get home I get some pics of the G1 and the G1+ and post them up, then you can tell. Like i said the easist way is the grip.
