paintball on the rise?
with more paintball exposure on tv and having people know what its all about,
anyone else think that paintball will be recognized as a sport and mroe n more people will want to play?
for example look at competitive texas hold'em..
no one liked it as much before but now that its all on tv(worldpokertour), a movie(rounders),etc. its been a hit in my highschool and all around. people get together every weekend to play and have tournaments
anyone else think this will happen to paintball?

paintball cost a lil more, tho, as soon as paintball is affordable to the worlds lower-middle class, then it should take off

u know what i see that really makes paintball grow? Newb groups, like a birthday party. 1 kid playes, invites all his friends, they all love it, tell there friends. Now we have a large group of 20+ ppl who enjoy the game. Lets say 2 of 20 become really serious and play for 2+ years stead. While the others either drop out of say 10 more become a on/off rec baller.
Sure the tournies might peak their interest, but it's these little groups that hook them.

posers just crowd up a field. And the good bunkers. It would destory the playing experience. And u'd have to listen to some much b.s. from them while in the staging area.

Paintball is already on the rise. As mentioned before, birthday parties or groups of friends help the sport grow a lot.

Well I'm new to the sport so I'll chime in. I go once every Sat. and usually the are about 25 people at the field I frequent. About 15 or so fall into the birthday group, and then 5 are serious pber's with really nice gear and about 5 of us fall in between the two groups. Almost everyone who comes has fun for mainly 2 reasons...
1. The field is run really well. Good staff, good enough rental equipment, we play a variety of games, even teams etc.
2. The serious players do go crazy on all the 12 year olds with thier rental guns. Plus they don't talk down to all the "Newbies and Posers" or whatever.
IMO nothing would hurt this sport more than a "You're not good enough to play" attitude. I remember my first time there I got smoked repeatedly by someone almost 10 years younger than me. Not my proudest moment, but when the few other players left early and in was just him and myself left we went out on to the field and he showed me a ton of stuff about the sport and really helped jump start my game. I was dead set at getting into the sport anyway, but what about all those birthday party kids, unless I've got stupid written across my forehead that could mean the difference between coming back and writing off the whole idea.
My 2 cents.
Adam

Yeah I think it depends on how their first time out is. If some ***hole just overshoots the newb with the rental they might not be likely to come back. That is the one bad thing IMO about the field around here they mix the total newbies with the real experienced players and some of the experienced players try to make themselves look good by just raping the newbs with the rentals. I don't mean just hitting them and dominating but there is one guy for example last Sat that hit this 12 year old girl who was out for the first time 27 times from about 12 feet with his Karnivore. Of course she freaked out and stopped playing and went home.

That's not just being a showoff, or even being mean. Ever since I started even reading about paintball, I've read about safety and responsibility and it's importance. The few injuries I've read about is where people do that kinda crap.
On a slightly more positive note, Yes, being nice to new players WILL make more new players. It's how I started.

I agree I don't think I would be where I am with paintball if this one guy, who also works at the field wasn't as helpful as he was, as well as other people I have met. I think 99% of the people I dealt with when I was first starting out were cool to me. Thats why if someone is new, and asks for help with something or just asks questions, ect. I will go out of my way to help them out (within reason of course). I just think it can be easy for that 1% to ruin the person's first time out, and they may not get a second chance. Now I have no qualms about shooting them, but I am careful not to just hose them either.

i hope more people that actually want to play join the sport. i cant stand the posers, and trust me, the small percentage of real players when paintball finally goes "bang" and everyone has to have a gun, will be swimming up to their eyeballs with posers who claim that they play just to look cool. if something is cool, you should at least know how to do it instead of making **** up...

I've seen an increase in my friend's playin paintball. When in grade school I only knew 2 people who played and now about 15 out of 20 of my friends have guns including myself. ITs growing alot and my friends HS even has a pball bluc with 100+ members.

i got into it because my cousin took me paintballing one time because one of his friends paintballs every once in a while
now i am really serious about it and have gotten my friends into the sport
there are already paintball posers at my school...they look up paintball terms and things on the internet and try to use them in everyday conversation...i want to kick them whenever i hear them.
at my school...there are about 100 people that are complete posers, play once in a while, or are serious about it...almost half of them are posers and there are only about 10 of us that are serious about it and try to play every week
the sport is growing INSANELY fast around here...last summer only me and a couple of my friends played...now tons of people play around here...a lot of them are the typical n00bs that buy the 98 customs or A5's with the flatline barrels and think they are snipers...one of my friends is one of them and he bought a fricken ghilla (sp?) suit and everything
