you've gotta think of the other side of it too; there are only so many ways to make a paintball gun, so different companies are bound to copy one another. seems like dye might be mad that smart parts had the good idea of making a lighter, plastic body for the ion, and is now making alot of sales off it.

and yea, dye is pissed because the ion is a HUGE step forword in prices, and dye and all other companies know to compete they need to lower prices which loses money, OR keep the same thing they have been doing and that still loses money.....

why can't they all just get along? you don't see Kingman and PMI suing each other. Why? because different ppl like different things. guns almost exactly the same are choosen by a matter of preference by buyers.

Well SP's lost the suit w/ WDP about the whole board programming thing. Not the microswitch, But i believe it was a way that u re-program the boards and stuff

and Dye bought the patent to the Matrix, so they have the right to Sue SP's for infringing on their patent. Seeing how the Shocker and Ion operate Extreamly similarly to the Matrix, Dye has the right to prosecute them

Kingman DID sue PMI, and most other spyder-clone makers. LOL.

Why? Well, the spyder is not patented because Kingman got the design from the ICD Promaster, and copied it exactly. However, Kingman became well known for sticking USELESS CRAP on there guns.
SO, PMI (and others) started sticking useless crap on the STBBs that they made....

And Kingman sued them for trademark violations.... arguing that "useless crap" was a Kingman trademark.

Anyway, Smart Parts stole the design for the "Omega Bolt" when it made the SHocker03, and the ION-ray. Dye owns the patent to the "Omega Bolt".

First off. Go ICD, originators. Also since dye actually owns the patent smart parts actually deserves what they're getting, which is nothing. Also like nick said SP deserves every last bit of it, they stopped production of AKA guns, and they'd probably be coming out with some of the best guns ever right around now.

I put this in the other thread on the subject.

SP took a great business chance.

All of you may be saying to yourselves that you would never do what they've done to other companies to get money and what they did was wrong and all that, but it's almost a fact that you would do the same exact thing if you had the oppritunity sitting right there.

You need to realize that all these other companies are competitors, and they are taking customers away from them, so to get those customers back, you need to sue the hell out of them and put them out of business to get money.

I'm not saying that I'm glad SP did what they did, not really trying to defend them, just trying to open the eyes of some people on here.

I mean ya, AKA was sweet, they had really good guns, and they would probably have better guns right now, and it's a b**ch that they can't make those guns anymore, but there is nothing I can do about it, and I don't feel like b****ing over the internet in some arguement that will solve nothing. So I'm just going to let it be.

That's just my .02 cents...Wow, haven't heard that one in awhile.

Yes, its ALSO a ***** that SP forced AGD to stop making the E-Mag and X-Mag.
Its ALSO a ***** that they RAISED the price of the Freestyle, BKO, B2k, Timmy and Matrix. And, SP can tell them to "STOP MAKING THEM" at any time, since SP forced them to sign documents giving them the power.

If SP had a legitimate right to the things they claim, then nobody would care. But they do not. A JUDGE last year actually declared that SP had not invented anything, nor do they have the rights to such inventions.

2 reasons:

1- ICD, AKA, and DYE settled OUT OF COURT. A judge was not involved in the deal, so its not clear why the latest decision would deal with that.

2- The judge declared that WDP is the rightfull owner of the "Electro patent", but then said SP might be allowed partial ownership to be determined at a later date. Again, a very GREY area.
