i dont understand it.. when some dumb little kids do a drive by the sport gets blamed. not the kids.. but have you ever heard of some body getting muged or beaten with a bat and baseball bet blamed...probiblly not..poeple dont understand that when paintball is played the way it is meant to be played it is about the safetest game there is... and i think it is out job and players to try to break that steriotype and educate the public as much as we can... i know it is a loosing battle but for the sake of the game we need to try....

It's the same way with video games and OMG! video games are horrible because some mom bought her kid GTA and he shot his friend with his dad's pistol that was left loaded in the nightstand.

Everytime I mention that I play paintball, the first response is "Oh my, doesn't that hurt?" Urgh, yes it hurts, but that's not why I play it.

Only you can stop the stereotypes.

id have to disagree in a small sense, every 'extreme' sport is stereo-typed in one way or another. because, as stated before, the public is uneducated on the sport and have many assumptions about them, many of which are not true.

my teachers used to always give me a hard time for missing 2 or 3 days a week every month for paintball. they thought it was a joke and would never seem to actualy pay attention when i told them about paintball.

they listened when they saw 3 people from my school conterfold in sports illustrated.

Paintball is more stereo typed than any other sport. Really, what other sport is branded with "Gun Crazy" "Vandalizers"

We are stereo typed with sooo much stuff, negative, positive, and wierd things...

Negative: You can get shot holding a paintball gun on the street by a cop
All paintball guns are used for crimes

Positive: It looks like it's really fun, I want to try it some time

Wierd: All woods ball, "What's speedball?", and every one freezes their paintballs.

Me and some friends talk about it at lunch. Some kids make fun of us, cause it's supposedly a "nerd" sport, I tihnk mainly cause you need to know a lot about your gun in order to properly fix it.

People at my school have no idea whatsoever.
Incidentally the school sponsored a paintball trip at the same time as some group of Air Force people, and so everyone got to thinking that you go paintballing and you'll see a bunch of military people. They also got to thinking that sniping is really possible and grenades will make you invincible, and that if a gun goes fast it sure as hell must be "fully auto", and the list of other common misconceptions goes on and on...
But the main thing I hate is the pussy attitude about it; for some reason people think that the hits make you bleed most of the time...then they go buy some sort of makeshift full-body armor and look like freaking idiots. Then other people see those people and go "wow they look like ****tards" so then they decide not to play, and so on...

People thought I was kidding when I started my paintball team, and I could feel them laughing behind my back at me thinking I could possibly start my own team...it was nice to get to show the school a video of us owning another team at the local field; that shut them up.

True. But in this situation, people DO think they know about it because they were watching "Everbody Loves Raymond" (Something like that) and they went out in the woods and played.

In this situation, every one thinks they know what they are talking about, but they don't.....

Paintball is stereotyped differently.
