Because it's how you win. Cheat or be cheated, bud. That's the tournament world for you. Do you EVER watch pro sports? Honestly, can you tell me that you watch football or baseball and don't think those guys cheat their asses off? Look at all the baseball "heroes" who made records...all while using roids!! That's cheating, and it's worse than wiping a hit, or overshooting someone with your ramping board.

Talk about pro sports, geeze. Football players are the biggest cheaters I have ever seen. They spit, grab, do anything they can. Hell, back int eh day they used to try to break ankles when there were big pileups.
Nascar cheats.
Baseball cheats.
Basketball cheats.
Soccer cheats.

So its the off the field attitude that is taking the fun out of the sport...
And yet again we see the ignorant statement of a ramping board/chip being a "cheating" product at all times. Ugh..

Do I wipe hits at practice?
Generally no.
Do I wipe hits in tourneys?
If I get the chance I will.
I find excessive wiping and bonus balling is part of the game. At practice it's pretty stupid but at a tourney it happens. And don't get me started on ramping.

i agree with barber. most of the people here do not play tournies. do you want to spend hundreds of dollars on entry, paint, guns, etc just to be put in last place cause someone on the other team played on? HELL NO.

hmmm...i understand where krazy_zack is coming from. cheaters sometimes end out ahead. but i dont think its worth it. but i can understand tourney ball. where you need to cheat to win some cash. but thats two subsections of the sport. thats like arena football and nfl football. different rules. different regulations. i dont think the only good players are on the tourney fields. i've seen many very good rec/wood ball players. my opinion. if your gonna cheat dont do it on the rec/woods ball fields. as long as everybody else does it people think that its ok to cheat. bottom line..cheating is called cheating for a reason. its not allowed. krazy_Zack deserves respect. if you look at what he's done with some markers. its pretty awesome. that takes creativity and talent right there. not just ordering all the best parts. he makes things. and saves money. i respect that guy. and i like his canadian accent.

The way i see it, there are two scenarios, and they are different.
I'm a small level tourney player, with 2 friends i play at a 3-man year-long league, with tourneys once a month. When Im at a tourney, i don't like it, but it is a necessity to play a little dirtier then in Recball. I dont like to admit it, but if it comes to a choice between winning the prize for the day or not wiping a cheast shot that no one saw, well im sorry but im gonna have to do it. As much for my good as my team.
Also, i do overshoot, and the refs allow it to an extent, ill cover why later on. I do it so no one else can wipe...ironic isnt it?
The other scenario takes place on the weekends im not playing in a tourney. With those same friends, and a few that are newer to pb, I go out to the same field at play rec ball. When im playing rec, im still not going to get out until im called, but im also less likely to overshoot you or wipe.
When I see a noob, I realize that he is the future of our sport (god help us) and i try not to take the enjoyment out of it for him. Doesn't mean that Im not going to play hard in Recball, but im not gonna make it unfun for non-tourny players either.
Now, as for the refs at my field, well, i gotta say that they are great. Mainly because its the homefield of Trauma and Gridlock, and most of the refs either play with them, ref with them, or use to play with them, and will let you slightly overshoot if necessary. They also understand that cheaters suck in recball, and will take you out.
Just my .02
