Mom trouble
My mother thinks that paintball is violent. told her about it and she said since we are Christians and Christians do not have anything to do with violent things I should not do it because we are using guns to shoot each other and it is agaisnt God.She lets me play but she will not take me or pick me up from the field and help on this matter.....I do not want to disrespect her because she lets me play but I would like to have her on my side.

Well, tell her that its really not all that voilent. Also tell her that if you are shooting eachother the other people agreed to gtting shot just as you did. My mom doesnt really support my playing either i just usually catch a ride to the playing field with a friend.

Im also a chriustian paintballer. We use markers not guns, we dont kill or shoot people, we mark or tag them. Is not violent and is no way supposed to be like war.

Paintball is one of the most least dangerous sports to do. If i had the time to find that thread i would, but its like even less dangerous than golf and bowling.

maybe show her some vids of tournys so she can see it's a sport, not just a bucnha kids pretending to kill eachother.
i mean seriously, we wear bright colors, hide behind ballons and shoot pink and yellow paint at eachother! what's violent about that?
btw i'm christian too, plenty of us are. tomorow my day of balling is being cut in half so i can go to church on the morning.

Yah, paintball isnt meant to emulate real war or killing or anything. Its just kinda like playing elimination tag. I am a christian baller as well, but nobody that I know holds the same stance your mother does.
In the bible there were many wars and other things. I mean, david himself had slain over 10,000 men, but he wasnt considered "un-holy".

I am a christian baller, my mom doesn't support me but my dad does. Yes, tell her paintball is the SECOND SAFEST SPORT, next to bowling.

Bowling has more serious injuries per year than paintball.
But his mom doesnt seem to have a safety issue with the sport, so telling her that prolly wouldnt help. She doesnt like it from the religious prospective.

i dont see how any religion could have anything wrong with paintball.
1. its not violent (depending on the players)
2. it promotes teamwork, leadership, and learning how to help other people
3. probablly the only sport where you are using your brain more than 20% of the time
ive seen/reffed/played with church groups, yes, churches who plan paintball events. i wasnt with the church, but it was fun playing 20 vs 20 anyways.
seriously, i dont know how much more sacreligious a church group out for a day of paintball can get
its played in over 100 countries, its more popular (by number of players) than snowboarding, and out of over 11 million players worldwide, 9 millions of those are in the U.S. and this info is as of 2002. its been 3 years, who knows how many people are playing now...
just tell your mom youre more likely to be seriously injured in your house than at a paintball field, and see if you can live there

Thats the dumbest reasoning ever, blame everything on religion! I play a lot with a lot of my friends that are die hard Christians, I'm a Christian too, but not overly religious. My friend's church sposors some paintball "get-togethers" at someone's house usually once every month or so between April and December. So it is definately NOT a violent thing that Christian's frown upon, so tell your mom that she apparently needs to find a new excuse for keeping you from playing. Or just take her to a field one day, I did that and then my mom actually started giving me a little money a week to play paintball with, which was awesome!

Alright kids. Speaking from a parent's point of view - I'm a father of 3, 2 of whom play pb - you need to be sincere, respectful, and convincing in what you say to your mom. My wife did not like the idea of our 14 yr old playing, but I looked up and showed her data on the internet about the safety precautions, injury frequency, and the premise/strategy of the game to relieve her concerns. Since your mom is concerned with the premise of the game, paintthecat had some good points:
Quote:
- it promotes teamwork, leadership, and learning how to help other people
- probablly the only sport where you are using your brain more than 20% of the time
- church groups plan paintball events with their youth groups

Do download some vids of games where the players are not swearing (don't even look at a Dynasty game!) and where she can see the team work and strategic planning involved. She most likely has two erroneous ideas about what happens on the field:
1) simulation/scenario game where players look like soldiers, carry markers that look like real guns (AK7), hide in brush to sniper or storm opponent to "kill" them
2) speedball field where each player just shoots wildly without much thought, trying to "kill" opponents
You need to show her the side of paintball that uses your mind. When watching the video, explain to her that each MARKER is set to very strict specifications, each team plans their strategy much like a chess game, and how communication and team work are crucial to winning. If you know that she does not have a problem with football, fencing, or any other contact sport, you can draw analogies between it and paintball...with paintball appear far less violent. g/l

plain and simply tell your mom that you understand where shes coming from, but shes wrong that its not violent. It is actually fun, to play, and people play because they like it. Where as violence, isnt fun. And violence, isnt always voluntary.
